Yesterday I've tried to log in to mew using private key and I got this message:
Quote

This is not a recommended way to access your wallet.
Entering your private key on a website dangerous. If our website is compromised or you accidentally visit a different website, your funds will be stolen. Please consider:
When this become not safe method? Any thoughts?
this is a security advice from the operator because using keywords is too easy to be hacked by a third party when you enter the fraud site and using Keystore / JSON Files will make your wallet safer because the hack can not copy the key
Excuse me, but what the fuck are you talking about? I was referring to message from MEW which is very clear.
Because they always claimed that they are safe and now they claim that they can be compromised.
I take it to be a warning to be careful. Make sure you are on the legitimate site if you are using private key.
Did you read what I wrote?
mew until now is the safe site, but you must care about the phishing site. don't forget for bookmark your trust site
Me not enter phishing site, me enter site safe. Me don't forget for bookmark my site trust.

I am locking this topic as I don't want to listen to more suggestions how I should be careful with links and phishing sites  Roll Eyes

Myetherwallet+Metamask is the best solution for ETH and ethereum based tokens, imho. JSON keystore file is also a good alternative but make sure you know the password that you used in your JSON file.
Just be sure you are on right site. There are many MEW phishing sites. Bookmark it and don't click on others urls/links.

I have been login into myetherwallet with my private keys and I have never having this problem. It might be a new message and maybe I will also see the samethhing after login!  If myetherwallet Is not save then which one is save? I also refer to them as the safest wallets provider and not most one that have run away with people coins.

It's better if you'll have a back up through .JSON file.

MEW is aware that they can be compromised anytime and their database is like a gold mine to the hackers.

They have been targeted since the bloom of cryptocurrencies mostly with ETH and other ERC20 tokens. If you have ETH, use nano ledger s.

I guess that only cold storage can be strong enough for cryptocurrency. Especially while we have "crypto" like Ripple with team thats looks like ambassadors of the World financial Gendarmerie

I remember last week or so that there are news going around that MEW was hack, specially on twitter, however, MEW already shoot down that news and officially releases a statement on twitter  that is pure FUD.
Yes and that is the reason why I posted.
They said everything is safe and all that was just a FUD and after that they gave us this warning. I am not concerned about whole message, only about this part:

Quote
Entering your private key on a website dangerous. If our website is compromised

Now they claim that they can be compromised, why now? Why not month ago?
Are they hiding something?

I think MEW only pasted it because there's a lot of phishing in the last couple of weeks. I have bookmark MEW myself and I double or triple check before accessing my MEW wallet using my private key and so far my funds are intact.

If better to be safe that sorry. Do all precautions so that we can't be phish (DNS phishing.)

I am not sure what happens when their database gets compromised but you should always kepp some tips in mind while accessing your wallet.
1. Never save your private keys in notepad as hackers often target notepad to stea your sensitive wallet data and then transfer your money immediately.
2. Don't click the links from email which pretend to be from your official crypto wallet. Always check the url in address bar before entering your private key into fake website

Are they hack your computer or wallet bro. I do not think that they will comes to hack your wallet notepad files and all. As you said if that is not easy possible option to steal the private key from the concern wallet's details saved in the personal computer and all.
If you click shared from the exact MEW wallet site you can do it, when the time unofficial and fake site link shared you should be away from the MEW wallet bro. Until your private key safe and you are logging in to the perfect URL you will not get hacked by the any wallet bro.
