Every newbie should take note of this, you do not give your private keys to anyone, not to a program, not to a website, not even to a friend. You protect your private key, you protect your money.

If something needs your private key to get started on their program, it is quite sure that program will scam you.

I used my wallet MEW to keep all the tokens on my ERC20 platform. I find that MEW is very safe and easy to use and I am completely reassured of this because since I know and use my wallet MEW I have not encountered any security issues with my account. I think you can rest assured when using MEW wallet, remember to keep the private key carefully.

All this can be circumvented very easily. If you are aware of any forks in the future, for BTC, ETH or etc, just move your balance to a new wallet. When said fork actually occurs, move that entire balance into a new wallet.

Now you have a private key pertaining to said fork, only containing said fork. Nothing will ever be lost, but you have the potential to gain something. This is exactly what i did with ETZ, and i can freely upload that wallet to mew or w/e and access those funds without being ever concerned, nothing is in that wallet.
You are right. But there are many users around on MEW, who are not familiar with correctly handling the gains of forks or simply want to keep their funds on one wallet. For these cases the warning is senseful.
But your advice to move funds and simply gain free coins is better.  Grin
To OP: Many thanks for sharing.

I have not checked my eth and my tokens on MEW so I still do not know what exactly happened, before I just see if my token does not show up automatically anymore, I have to click on the token one for the token to be visible. I felt strange at the time, but I still use it up to now. Given this information, I'll check it out, and thank you very much for sharing this information.

I knew it would be scam the first I looked at it. Legit projects are often fully transparent with all information that you need easily accessible. Etherzero had nothing like that. The site looks like crap, team not present and the worst part is that they would require putting your own private key into "fork compatible wallets", which was in fact present on their website for downloading.

If giving your private key to be greedy ends up in loss of your funds, you earned it.  When I heard about eth zero and the private key thing, my paranoia-system red flags just went purple.  Roll Eyes

It's a bit strange for me. But where are you finding this information regarding ethzero. Because I can't find anything that related to this awareness anywhere. Also, ethzero site contains suspicious malware.
I think that developer will never ask your private key to be sent to the developer itself.

Frankly, whoever trusts private keys to anyone, including MEW must have been hiding in a cave for the last few years. I only trust MEW doing off-line transactions, strictly client side.

Feel free to move it to "scam accusation" since there is where this threads belong.

I'd agree it should be there, but I would suggest a repost rather than a move.

The ones most likely to fall prey to this are the newbies. It's a good post to have here as well.
