I'll update the email to my proton account later.
I advise you not to do this. There must be a good reason for them not accepting protonmail in the first place. Sure, you can change your email to whatever you want but you might get in troubles later like not receiving notifications from them or not being able to login again.
At least, create a dummy account to test out if they send notification emails to protonmail accounts.

I've had a few services in the past where the services wasn't accepting my ProtonMail email address upon registration as well. The only reason for such restriction that I could think of is simply that a huge majority of users are using Gmail and Yahoo, and that people who use privacy-enhancing email clients like ProtonMail has a higher likeliness of being trouble for them.

So I'm trying to set up a MEXC wallet and it's telling me I cannot use my proton account to register/open the new account. Has anyone had this issue trying to register using their proton account?
To simply solve your problem. Just your or create a Gmail account, likehw others said, the exchange has the prerogative to choose the mail we're allowed to use, probably they are hesitant with the format proton is using, anyway that could be internal, but as far as I know most users used typical Gmail or yahoo even on Binance, this is my first time a protocol email I hear that is used for such registration.

I did a google search and all that comes is MEXC exchange (mexc.com). I would have tried to carry out a test registration on your behalf to confirm if i need they don't allow registeration using protonmail.
You're right @JeromeTash, this is indeed an exchange[1]. I haven't found any mention on their User Agreement and Privacy Policy[2] regarding banning certain e-mail providers - such as ProtonMail - but I did find a reddit user[3] that had the same problem as you OP. He found a workaround for this issue by registering with another e-mail and then change the e-mail on his accounts settings to the desired e-mail (in this case, ProtonMail). Strangely you're basically the second report that I've seen having this issue since a quick search on the exchange sub[4] revels that there was only one user (quite recently - 2 months) that had the same problem. Probably most of their userbase - sadly - uses a gmail address.

Alternatively you can always try to contact them by using their Telegram channel[5] or Twitter[6] account and wait for a resolution / answer to your query.

I was also looking about that problem as i have readed the issue from the op and i searched there support page and was guessing thats the problem on the protonmail side.
As i have seen you already got the answers and was faster as me and some links for resolve the problem hopefully , i stoped on searching more on that.
+1 from me and fingers crossed the op can solve his problem with that.

Not sure about MEXC but some places don't allow proton due to it's anonymous nature. If you don't want register for a normal gmail or outlook account try GMX or ZOHO instead

So I'm trying to set up a MEXC wallet and it's telling me I cannot use my proton account to register/open the new account. Has anyone had this issue trying to register using their proton account?
I know that many platforms support predifined extensions and in many cases your mail provaider mignt not be supported. I had a Zaho mail in the past and i encountred several cases where it's not supported.

Fortunetly , the solution is easy : Change the email.  Smiley
