I've got to say, this is a pretty cool idea and I've never even thought about something like this. I'm not sure about one thing. People will play bets depending on their luck? I mean how can you possibly know why rat will win the race if they are all the same and anyone could do it? Are there any statistics, any information about the mices? Or is it completely randomly and based on luck?

Best would be for OP to implant a live chat during the race, where people could ask you to write a word on a paper then you show paper on the camera and it would prove it's live recording.

I can't remember seeing this thread ever before and why is this not a more popular thread? I do read that animal rights concerns already brought up and I must say that while it can probably never be made real or proper, from the videos it does not seem like they are leading a tortured life. Hopefully they are always kept fed and happy. Anyway the world forces dogs and horses to run every day so it is not so much different for mice.

More to the point, organise something like a proper event for us gamblers, so we can participate more too. The history of the mouse and caretakers and things like that. Like horses too you can learn a lot about their style and breed and way they are groomed etc.

Well, if they really want to make that happen on blockchain using provable fairness mechanism, they can! For instance, every mice is categorized with a unique bitcoin address and whenever that mic wins a race, some token amount of money is sent to that address. Ideally, the bitcoin with the high balance is an obvious winner more times.

We have some issues with the stream quality but are working on improvements and have ordered some new things. It may seem simple but with moving parts and live animals, it's never that straightforward. We had to ensure that the planning and manufacturing was as precise as possible to avoid any situations where the animals can be harmed.

Food in such environment does not make any difference, even with their favorite treats at the end of the track, they are more interested in the surroundings rather than the food. We're not able to force them to run so there's very little we can do. It's really just about letting them get used to it since it's still very new for them.

so far it is more of a novelty fun site rather than a legit betting platform, try to make sure that there is no way of accusing the site of rigging the races

We would have no benefit from doing so, since all the mice are placed in the lanes during the same time that the betting is open. They also have different colours/patterns, so we wouldn't be able to just change "recording" (if it was pre-recorded) to then provide more favorable results for ourselves. And besides, the "bets are closing" countdown occurs 5 seconds before the start of the race, so we'd have no time to alter anything

They were a little tired by then. We can't force them to run, but they are usually pretty good/active at the start, after a good night of rest. We'll be getting more so that we can continue operating for longer periods of time, since we are needing to let them rest quite often.

I must admit, I thought it was a terrible idea, but after watching the mouse for a few times it actually changed my mind. I laughed my ass off when the mouse turned around half way and then ran back to the starting position.

I think you should have a general rest break for these guys and then stream the video for the animal rights activist, to see that the mice is having fun, when they are resting.

You should also chose mice with unique characteristics , so that we know that the same mouse is not winning the race every time.

Something is showing finally! I can see the rats and the bets being initialised. The video I guess is a live stream going on. Is your production and development server the same? I also noticed one of the bets like real time. It's something different.

On the production server if there are no live games going on, then it's good to have some sort of demo for the first time visitors to excite them about how the site works.

We were offline at the time, we'll be implementing custom messages so people can clearly see when we're offline. The plan is to be operating 24/7 (or close to) once we do a full launch. But we'll be needing more mice for that so that we can allow adequate resting time.

Could you please elaborate on the "same condition" point? We have no gain from making any of the mice win, since they're all randomly placed into each lane and the betting isn't closed before they are in the starting gate, so people can see them before the race starts.

It has been incredibly fun, and also interesting working on this project. I've learned a lot from it, especially just from watching the behavior of the animals. We're actually using gerbils at the moment since they are friendly, active and easy to handle. (We've tried a few different animals, ranging from "Dwarf Hamsters" to "African Dormice"). I am a big animal lover and I do understand that some people may perceive some form of animal abuse, but I honestly don't consider it any different to traditional horse racing or dog racing. Our priority is making sure that any animals that we keep are looked after.

As for the profiles and identifying each one, that is something we have planned for the future. Currently all the mice are randomly placed into each lane, so the betting is random. You're basically choosing a lane and hoping that the mouse on that lane wins (or comes runner up so you get the money back). If we were to identify each one, the strong performers would constantly be winning and would therefore require us to implement specific odds for each race, for which we currently wouldn't have enough data for.

This is one of those ideas where you say "It's crazy enough it just might work". I had a similar idea before using rats. It was just an idea and never developed. I will admit it is cool to see that someone has done it. The biggest drawback for me is the perceived animal abuse. You will have to make the mice retire in comfort, and treat them well. I would expand on that on your site.

Also, name the mice. Give each one a profile. Make players have favorites. Also, give options for the players to give the mice treats (for btc).

The track from the starting gate to the finish line is 135cm long.
The width of each lane is 6cm.
The drop is only around 12cm high to ensure that the animals don't get injured.

Game Rules
Game rules are subject to change.
The current rules are as follows:
The winning mouse gives a 2.5x payout.
The runner up (2nd mouse) gives a refund for bets placed on that mouse.

The race is cancelled and bets are refunded if:
There are no winners within 30 seconds.
There is only one winner within 30 seconds.
There are any unforeseen issues.
