Microsoft doesn't add coins to Azure. Azure is a collection of cloud services that you can buy from Microsoft. You can buy disk space, virtual servers, databases etc etc. You could also buy similar products from Amazon, rackspace, google etc etc etc etc.

To use any of these cloud services like azure/amazon/etc you just need to provide a credit card no.

This does not mean that your hyped up altcoin is promoted by the company that is being paid for what is in effect a virtual pc.

Of course, there are a lot of shifty altcoins out there that say that Microsoft most be supporting them as they are on Azure. You're too smart to fall for that though aren't you?

Agreed and i have said the same all along.
It pisses me off there is guys out there that are misrepresenting a coin using Azure.

I have kept saying it's basically a hosting service and you can pay to have what ever you want hosted.. simple.

I showed an example of how i had explained this to a guy who was CONSTANTLY hyping up ETH..
(Before the big pump happened) he kept demanding specifically word for word..
That Microsoft was "USING" Ethereum.
Long story short Poloniex chat box moderators insulted me then banned me for FUD.
Apparently you are allowed to hang around their constantly lying to lure in victims..
but warning people earns you a ban from chat.
I consider that grooming their victims.. (Poloniex has a habit of doing that)

Note the guy i mentioned was saying IBM was using Ethereum too.

The reason these deceitful scammers are saying that is to trick people into buying a coin under false pretenses.
Then when you challenge them on it they scream Troll + FUD.. then the ban's start coming.

I also found it strange someone was so obsessed with ETH advertising back then.
This guy had made it his life's mission to sit on chat hyping it non stop.
I would go on Poloniex chat like once a week and he would still be there ..saying the same exact crap.
What i am driving at is it's possible he was paid to do that.

This is deceitful / dishonest "marketing" ..it's effectively lying.
And because the Altcoin scene is made up of children or the English impaired or stupid.. it works wonderfully.

Take the launch of "Prime Coin" XPM or "Quark"
Both of those quickly had a flood of users who were "USING" Azure for CPU mining.
Was Microsoft "USING" those 2 coins ? Of course not.. that is silly nonsense.
But if it gets said enough by scammers people believe it.. case in point the recent ETH hype.

EDIT:
It's been possible in the Altcoin scene to publish a lie for a couple years now.
All you need to do is make sure your lies are louder than the truth.

We contacted them, they told us what we needed to do. It basically consisted of signing a Contributor License Agreement, submitting a PR to the Azure templates Github repo, and sending them a write-up. Took us like 3 or 4 hours:)

All the altcoins saying that Microsoft is "partnering" with them are being disingenuous - you are a partner inasmuch as you have a BizSpark account and signed a CLA.

nonesense coins/craplatform like emersoncoin, fattom, etholium just coming out of a rat hole are making millions and millions from this partnerships. instant millionaires for these guys who are most cant even code

You could rephrase "if they actually got pumped" for a more precise answer. That usually disconnects all brain cells.

Here's what Microsoft says about it: https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/azure-blockchain-update-7/

"DevTest labs continues to be a very active place to explore the power of blockchain networks. Azure DevTest labs allows you to create a lab "sandbox" to invite your partners, competitors and supply chain participants into where they can be contributors having full control over resources they create, but no administrative permissions to others resources. It creates the perfect environment to try out collaborative use cases for blockchains in a move towards a shared ecommerce platform based on distributed ledgers. This allows you to create your own "private" consortium lab within your Azure subscription, setting up restrictions for usage, etc., but skip the whole "joint" lab setup and get to work ASAP."

Specifically about Monero:

"Monero is a crypto currency that is not based on the Bitcoin codebase, and that aims to remain as private, secure, and scalable as possible. All Monero transactions are cryptographically untraceable and unlinkable, and there is no separate "clear" token. This enables end users to use Monero as a private store of value and as a medium of exchange that is impervious to blockchain analysis or miner censorship."

Definitely doesn't mean Microsoft is accepting Monero as payment.  It means that they have chosen some of these cryptocurrencies as likely developmental tools that others will use to further their goals.

So I'd say it's somewhere in between "Microsoft loves them and accepts them as payment!" and "There is no significance."  There is certainly some significance if Microsoft has identified these blockchains as likely to be useful for development.

Microsoft doesnt do anything with them.  They make it easier for developers that use Azure to do things with them.  (Of course, you still need developers on azure do make something that uses them, or its pointless).

I've never used Azure, so I dont know what are its use cases and benefits

Now Microsoft added coins such as Etherium, Monero (today), Radium, etc...

What exactly does it mean? What do they do with these technologies? What benefits do these cryptos in Azure provide for customers?

I understand that Microsfotfs acepts Bitcoin paiments, and adding other coins to Azure does not mean that they also accept, e.g., Monero to pay for services of Microsoft. So what Microsoft is getting out of it and what customers want to expect?

It means this technology is adapting more and more into the real world.Q
