Windows 8 works great on older computers, better than win xp. I tried 10 and kinda like it. Better than 8 or 8.1. Will upgrade to it as soon as it will be released  Tongue

I heard that windows 8.1 is better OS for AMD platforms (like OS better using cores)? Is that true? I'm using win 8.1 on AMD Phenom II x4 965 BE and it's fine.

You're never too old to think young.
Just adding a start menu to Win8 isn't enough.

All traces of the worthless Metro GUI and sleazy WinRT with its evil "apps" and "store" must be removed.

Any OS that requires logging into or even having an account is totally bogus. I demand total anonymity.

I want a desktop/workstation OS, not a cellphone OS.

Even with my Android devices I can maintain anonymity by not installing a SIM card, avoiding the Google Playstore, and downloading APK files on a Win7 PC for transfer via USB and installation for any applications I might need such as Bitcoin programs, Flash Player, etc.

If Microsoft doesn't pull up its socks and get rid of all the Win8 crap by the time they stop supporting Win7, I'll have no choice but to finally switch to Linux for good.

Bored with you morons.
I don't think we should judge it based off of its name.  What was the rationale behind skipping 9 though?

Because technically it's the right version number.

Windows 1 = Version 1
Windows 2 = Version 2
Windows 3 = Version 3
Windows 95 = Version 4
Windows 98 = Version 5
(skip ME and 2000 - they're patch versions essentially)
Windows XP = Version 6
Windows Vista = Version 7
Windows 7 = Version 8
Windows 8 = Version 9
Windows 10 = Version 10

Whoever named Windows 7 fucked up... it should have been 8.

As somebody who is currently dealing with a technical problem created specifically by Microsoft, this makes me angry.

you should try it. iv had the beta on my pc and id say its as good as windows xp maybe even as good as windows 7 Shocked

What? It's definitely alot better than Windows 7, and you can't even compare it to something as outdated as XP.

I went from XP right to 8. Then I upgraded to 8.1

I actually like Windows 8/8.1, but seem to be in the minority because I never had Windows 7

If this keeps to the pattern then it should be cool. Microsoft releases crap OS and then the next one is pretty cool. So since windows 8 was a disappointment this one should be ok.

Reverse engineer from time to time
Either they skipped the windows 9 or forgot counting.

Lol.. Maybe 9 is badluck for Gates.
I heard that someone in Germany thought that it's because the word nine (spelled: nein) means no in the German language.

In other words:
Windows: No
The reason is that Windows 9 was too similar to Windows 95, i.e Windows 95 and this would break a lot of code out there, so they switched to Windows 10.
It's a pretty silly reason if you ask me.
Probably. But Microsoft said W10 will be the last major release, they will now update Windows with incremental updates, 10.1,2,3 and so forth for probably quite a few years.

Whatever name MS called its new OS, it's still a piece of crap. They think they can bully it's way into tablets by making desktop OS touch screen friendly. The fact is, it forces users to switch away from MS.

Funny that Microsoft is advertising with the fact that they have changed Windows 10  Cheesy

The only thing they did is make it work and look like windows 7  Grin

No need to upgrade once again, windows 7 is perfect!

I'm using windows 7 currently and have tried windows 8 for a while (not that much different imo). Changing operation system (and moving data etc etc...) doesn't worth it if there are no major advantages IMO.

Yep, sticking with windows 7 for now.

If it's anything like 8 (tablet-friendly eye cancer) will probably switch over to linux for good.
