Follow the money, tht is the primary motivation of Microsoft. I won't go into the other stuff like global eugenics via vaccinations. If you think that the acquisition by a company that attempts enforced centralisation to increase profits is a good thing, then I don't believe you are thinking forward.

Following the money is the primary goal for any business. Is this a surprise? If you are one of those anti vaccination people theres really nothing to talk about. Good luck with the tin foil hat and your polio infested offspring.

You guys sound like you dont understand the transformation that has happened with Microsoft over the last few years. They do more open source than most other companies these days. Windows is almost a meaningless piece of their portfolio these days. Look forward, not back.

I hope it doesn't happen. Microsoft and Google own enough as it is. If I had to choose one? I'd probably pick Google, because Microsoft is more likely to charge you money for using it or shove Bing advertisements down your throat.

If they don't have to change GitHub into next Office365 aka Github365 and really focusing developing GitHub for developer just like what they did with Visual Studio Code, i would say it's not bad idea to keep using GitHub.
But using personal Git server for development process or use another service such as GitLab might be better idea.

Do not die for Putin
I think this is the perfect moment to fork Github and make it independent from the giants.

Lets do it. We could build the fork over 3 or 4 years, and then sell it for a few billion to Google. Smiley

What the heck... I am all in!!

I see that step is good for everyone.
Microsoft: They found a way of knowing junior developers and then employing them with a small salary while preventing other companies from acquiring them.
Github: The deal will be similar to what happened between Facebook & Whatsapp.

I bought a Netbook with Windows 10 preinstalled. I bought it as a second computer, and it is cheaper to buy one with Windows and a whole loadof other software on it, than it is to get one with a clean disk. The retailer or manufacturer is paid for the installs because they know that some of them will convert into regular contracts. I wiped the disk completely, and I installed Ubuntu.

I think that the latest Windows 10 forced updates indicates the disrespect that the company has for its customers. I don't really use GitHub apart from some of the software that is downloaded from the site. I'd prefer it if the sofware comes from some other source in the future.

If can be of any consolation Google or Amazon are not any better either, not sure who is the worse among the these 3. Rest assured they are all in just to make money, not to piss off communities.

Google is making money out of your personal data giving you in return a service that is better than the average for free, is the equivalent of selling your soul. That said im using gmail and have an android phone.  Undecided
And still Google has a record for shutting down projects that didn't take off or make any money.

Amazon i just know that treat their employees like shit.

as i was writing about this in another thread:

I remember when they did buy Minecraft and the studio behind, it was mainly for the potential value of the user base.

If you think Microsoft produces a lot of developing tools and platform, which now supports also non traditional Microsoft programming languages, like Visual Studio Code. I would not be surprised if they did this move to strengthen their position, by reaching out on thousands of developers. I don't think it may necessarily be a bad thing.

Plus there are these statement, from Microsoft and Github

https://blogs.microsoft.com/blog/2018/06/04/microsoft-github-empowering-developers/

Quote
Given all of this, together with GitHub, we see three clear opportunities ahead.

First, we will empower developers at every stage of the development lifecycle – from ideation to collaboration to deployment to the cloud. Going forward, GitHub will remain an open platform, which any developer can plug into and extend. Developers will continue to be able to use the programming languages, tools and operating systems of their choice for their projects – and will still be able to deploy their code on any cloud and any device.

Second, we will accelerate enterprise developers’ use of GitHub, with our direct sales and partner channels and access to Microsoft’s global cloud infrastructure and services.

Finally, we will bring Microsoft’s developer tools and services to new audiences.

It seems that the CEO of github will continue to work on it with Microsoft https://blog.github.com/2018-06-04-github-microsoft/

As for me, I’ll be taking on a new role at Microsoft working closely with Nat and the team, and will share more details on that in the future.

We will have to wait and see how it evolves.

In case you didn't know - Microsoft has agreed to buy GitHub. You can read about it here -
https://www.cnbc.com/2018/06/05/github-interest-from-google-and-others-revenue-about-300-million.html

I'm not sure I'm happy with either of them acquiring GitHub, or the third contender - Amazon. I hope that it will lead to the creation of an alternative site, and a shift away from Microsoft. We need to preserve the open source concept, and alternatives to the attempted globalist control of the Internet

what do you think?
