I saw on other thread, that Microsoft aplogizied for this news, they clarified that they not stop accept bitcoin on windows 10 store, they still accept it,but i forget to safe the link..i dont know for sure, which news are true.

They had now said sorry ,after a long time without any kind of news related to the service they allowed to be used bitcoin, its interesting they support once again bitcoin near the halving i guess microsoft will expect the future events to see what to do about bitcoin, and maybe who knows they make their own coin.

that's strange it seems that they are going to accpet etherum, but dropping bitcoin, when the first has no usage...

i think it is only momentarily
If that scenario will happen and Microsoft will really ditch Bitcoin in favor of Ethereum then there is clear that there are some coordinated movements behind the curtain aimed to destroy BTC.
Maybe Microsoft will buy ETH foundation, it sure seems that their developers wouldn't mind that.
The same thing also appear in my mind we have seen that everywhere Microsoft tried to be the master and I think in that place too Microsoft want to introduce something which will be in the ownership of Microsoft.

And yesterday they stated they still accept bitcoin. This makes me doubt them more.

lol That was just a test whether people will actually buy ETH for their store and i guess users don't like going to troubles exchanging BTC for ETH. and so they take back. It would be too early to do that as the transition is going to be slow. we're already into bitcoin for years, its going to be hard to uproot BTC and replace it with ETH. in fact, ETH may NEVER replace.

Did not read full thread.

Just wanted to say - this is not true.  MS is still accepting bitcoin.
Yes it is true.
I think Bitcoin is easier because it just takes a second to pull out Breadwallet and there's no input of address, cc number etc. With an HD wallet, I feel secure carrying around a decent chuck of BTC with me at all times on the phone. I spend it whenever I have opportunity to use Bitcoin. So, I like Bitcoin back there.

They were very clear,on their words, people got pissed and bored,i mean the community of bitcoin were not getting why they had removed from one moment to another, anyway its good to see a big company working with bitcoin, will help the mainstream .

Yeah. due to the words came from the Microsoft team had made most users get out of panic which was created yesterday. Only when big corporates accept bitcoin automatically the trust over bitcoin will increase which is much needed for a growing technology.

All the medias now report that Microsoft accepts BTC. I guess we'll never know what happened. I still believe it could have been a mistake, though. Like if they were making an update in their payment processing system, and the non-fiat currency didn't accept it. They should explain.

I do hope this is just a case of being a switch over from BitPay to managing their own server since they are more than capable, although it likely is just a removal due to lack of use.

I think this is most likely the reason, the connection with BitPay.  I don't think this is terrible news and Microsoft can change their stance in the future. Nothing to see here.

BitPay was giving large businesses something like the first million transactions for free. Maybe they just used up their free grace period so they dropped it. That's what I would do. The minute I had to give up a percentage of my profit I would cancel the service.

The accounting might have been a nightmare too. Difficult to incorporate accounting and a 2% fee? Bye bye.

Microsoft grew too big that there are always politics involved. Some staff has vision, some don't. It could simply be that majority of MS shareholders never have patience for anything to mature. Always short sighted for immediate returns.

Name any of their recent product that were decent. I cannot think of any. Even for things they wanted to innovate, they often fall short:
- Bill Gates first commercialized tablet, the Compaq one used by Tom Cruise in Collateral Damage, anyone still using it?
- Windows Mobile, anyone still using it?
- Windows Phone, they made v7 hardware incompatible with later versions. Why would anyone still buying those?
- Acquisition of Nokia, where is it now?
- Silverlight, they promoted heavily for Olympic Games, it's dead now.
- XBox One launch, "Fortunately we have a product for people who aren't able to get some form of connectivity, it's called Xbox 360."

Microsoft hardly able to make any bold move for a long time. This one is no exception.

The reason for that is possibly low sales... Bitcoiners will not waste coins on useless items and goods, knowing that the Halving is coming up and that they might see some good profits. The fact is,

when the price is low, people do not spend coins... when the price is high, people buy like crazy. If you stop accepting Bitcoins when the price is low and people stop spending, you are going to miss

out on some huge sales, when the price is high and the people goes into a shopping spree.  Cheesy

It isn't their fault, IMO. Because they just changed its focus from Bitcoin to Blockchain technology. I hope they will change their mind, but some sources said that Microsoft store will not accept Bitcoin anymore.

I too hope they will change their mind one day. But the bitcoin community has to do their parts to allow the continuous growth of bitcoin (not their own fortune). By doing this, not only MS will come back but many other companies will start trading in bitcoins. I really hope this day will come soon.

Very possible and reasonable to happen, Although I of course don't like it, Bitcoin is a revolutionary currency system and a company like microsoft would have plenty of problems with the other payment systems plus customers not understanding bitcoin is a common currency and not criminals currency.

They were using Bitpay, so maybe this time when they re-start to accept it, they will do it on their own since by now they must have learned a thing or two about how to keep wallets etc.

But lets not make a big deal out of this, maybe not too many people were buying microsoft products and the ones who did they didn't use bitcoins.

If I am not wrong, they were working with Bitpay on the payment. Most likely they have paid a lot of money but the return is too little- causing MS to stop accepting Bitcoin.

To me this is a sad news- many other businesses also stop accepting Bitcoin because of this. Hope this will soon reverse...

This is possible since microsoft is a business, if its not profitable they will stop processing or accepting bitcoin. Maybe they first open as a test market if will welcome the move. Also, bitcoin market is not that popular or profitable yet?

Wow, surprise. Theymos got a DMCA from them about a few weeks ago, too, to nuke the threads in Digital Goods selling stolen Microsoft keys. Perhaps part of a two-pronged attack on Bitcoin by lame establishment?
Quote
Yes this is weird since it has been 4 months I am selling.

Admin gave me this
"I received a DCMA takedown notice for your "Microsoft Keys Shop" topic. Therefore, I removed it. Do not sell any Microsoft keys on this forum in the future."

But last time I check the Digital Goods still has a lot of sellers of MSDN Keys, eliminating the competition maybe considering I'm one of the most trusted seller

Why can't MS understand that if they don't let us use our BTC to buy their products legally, we'll just steal them & buy them illegally Angry

There's no point accept bitcoin payment only from US citizens, many bitcoiner also live outside US and they want to use accept more than bitcoiner in US.
Also, they never advertise (Or i don't know) that they accept in Windows 10 Store and other location (if there are any). Honestly, i just know microsoft was accept bitcoin in Windows 10 store.

Well since on the article mentioned "while not yet mainstream" the time they adopted this kind of payment, they didn't seem to done enough to make it work or rather drive more sales since base on some comments, it was open for US citizens only and we all know, they have plenty of other options aside from BTCitcoin but what they failed was, to make this feature open to the rest of the world. Their marketing strategies seems to have flaws in it.

You're definetly right.
Microsoft should have let it open for anyone to pay via Bitcoin and not limit it.
I still dont get why they just removed it. I mean come on. Just dont change it, wont make loss.

Yes, that's true. All the real merchants are doing the same. It's FREE advertising . Smiley

Stopping accepting Bitcoin is free advertising as well. But the obvious fact is not enought Bitcoin sales - but it is common problem with Bitcoin payments as most people just holding, otherwise no reason to stop accepting Bitcoin.

It's kinda microsoft's fault actually
1. They only accepted Bitcoin Payment from US customers only, how are bitcoin payment gonna be mainstream if they decided to limit who can use it and who cannot use it
2.No advertising, how people (especially those who never heard of bitcoin) Gonna be aware of bitcoin usage in their store if they never put any advertising or some sort, look up at their youtube channel, there are a lot of ads for windows 10 and lumia, but none of this service

I feel like Microsoft just sort of adopt bitcoin just for fun and no serious intention for it Tongue

exactly. my thoughts are the same here. what's the point of only allowing customers from a certain part of the world while they could make more sales if they enabled the people to pay with bitcoin everywhere around the world. and beside that. everything from microsoft is freaking expensive. people can buy the same stuff elsewhere for much less. i am definitely not surprised.
