I would say I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiments here, but I don't even know how well the merit system is even working, much less what Theymos's assessment of it is.  It isn't as though he communicates his thoughts about these things all that frequently, so there's no way to know if he's even considering adding any new merit sources.

I don't want the merit system to fall apart, and even though we don't see as many threads in Meta asking about merits (or complaining about not being able to earn them), I wonder whether there's enough merit being distributed--and that there aren't "dead spots" where merit sources never visit.  The forum could probably use a few more merit sources, especially ones that frequent local boards.  Last I looked, there weren't very many new Legendary members being made, and I'm guessing the same is true of Hero and even Sr. Member ranks.

So good luck with your application, OP.  If Theymos ever considers adding new sources, you've got my support.

Both your application and mine are still pending, I wonder if Theymos is still at the beach although I highly doubt he takes any time off at home, let alone the beach, or we both failed to convince him or maybe he has better plans for the two of us. 

Right, theymos, summer is over. No more lolling about on the beach, no more book-reading or weed-whacking.

Time to wheel out the creaking old merit algo, buff it up a bit so mikey here gets at least a smidgen of source merit ( the mining section plus the Arabic section ) and let's get this whole show back on the road.

Only messing about buddy, I’m lucky to be where I am in that list. There’s plenty of better posters than me here, mikey should definitely be a merit source, I find it odd that he isn’t any way.

Guilty as charged but to be fair that difference can be covered with just one or two good posts. Create some topics of interest to large groups of users on this forum (scantily clad ladies are always a safe bet but I'm also hearing good things about this internet money scheme - bitcoin - so you can try that) and you'll catch up in no time.

As you can see the "applicant" is still refusing to answer some fairly basic questions about their own character:

Hang on a minute, I could really do without this thread being pumped. mikeywith is a couple of hundred Merit received ahead of me in the all time list. If you bastards could stop feeding him Merit that’d be great (suchmoon, I’m fucking looking at you ).

Phill thanks so much for your input, just a correction, you are looking at the number and not the sum on bpip.org, in reality, you sent me a total of 137 merit 69 times (some contain more than single merit), I have only sent you 62 merit, certainly not because that's all you deserve, you have a dozen of great posts that I would merit if I had enough merit, so far I have sent only about 1335 merit in total (all the sMerit I had), I also think increasing your source allocation will help improve the mining community, so if Theymos decides to increase your bag, do let me know and I will stop pumping this topic until it's needed again.

1) I give him a lot of merits as he is one of the few people in the mining section with really good work.
2) I have never seen him act biased when he awards merits
3) He has given 1 point at the moment most of the time since he does not have a source.



I won't recommend him because it would be a clear case of helping myself.

He has given me many merits.

One problem with doing a lot of posting in sha 256 btc mining  is there are not many of us posting due to mining being very hard for the last 2 years.

So you get the issue that we all tend to give each other merits.  I am a source I must have given mikeywith more then 200 merits as he is one of the most helpful posters in mining section if not the most helpful one.

I don't consider me and him to be swapping merits to boost out totals.  But the fact is we give merits to each other.

There are about 25 steady posters in sha-256 btc mining section.  Are we a club?

 some would say if it looks like a club acts like a club and walks like a club then it is a club.

I would say without mining there is no BTC so don't judge a small area by those rules.

Frankly I thought mikeywith was a source.

And to last of the v8s  he would be a better pick then you.

But that is like saying babe ruth is better then mickey mantle.

To mikeywith I hope you get picked. But I do abstain from saying pick you as I would be one of the members to gain the most.

Bugger. Another worthy rival rears his ugly head. In truth, he's consistently outclassed me on most every level. If one were ever to see him troll around, I bet he'd be better at that too. Not to say he's not light and humorous too when appropriate. I support his application without reservation or even grudge.

Although I don’t hang in the mining board too much, I occasionally bumped in your post and I think they are really good and merit worthy.
So I think you fully respect the first criterium set by theymos to be a merit source:

Now, I don’t know how many posts are written in the mining section, how much “spam” is in it or other particular facts that might make finding 10 good post in the last couple of months. But in your list is see posts from 6 years ago (which I of course merited..).
I think you should try to select newer posts. This is both, as theymos stated, part of the Merit Source set of skills, but also the actual need of a Merit Source active in that particular section.

That quote is already almost 1 year old but is still quite accurate that you would do a good job as Merit source.

Finally, I'm very proud of you that you decided after a long time to apply as a Merit source!

Being active on both local and English boards can be advantageous for your situation and adding of new merit sources which are established will increase decentralization of merit distribution. Also, I agree with you that mining is the backbone of Bitcoin and that's why I support you.

FWIW I wholeheartedly support Mikey's application. He is smart and fair and I think he'd be a good merit source for those nerds over there on the mining boards.
