Hey guys, what would you think of building a roleplay minecraft server on top of a Blockchain with a currency. It would be a roleplay server, where you can earn currency by working inside the game, or trading items, building stuff, would be the ingame currency. This currency in a future could be exchanged with bitcoin.

You cant build games on blockchain. Games have to run on a local database. Doing it on blockchain would be very expensive. What you can do it to have games asset on blockhain. All you need to do is to issue an asset on one of asset platforms. Counterparty, Etehreum, Waves, Bitshares, Tari, ... and link that asset to database of your game.  People then when register account also link a wallet to it and when they buy this tokens that represent an asset in game then game adds that asset to their ingame account.

The server would probably get overloaded if it got too popular, that is a very expensive task. With all the upkeep for the coin and the server you are much better of just using Bitcoin for that.

The first point: the traders are mostly an adults who is not interested in computer games of that sort. Minecraft are popular among the youngsters but the problem is: youngsters doesn't have a money.

And how do you suppose to  pay for trading, building, etc.?
What the point for somebody giving you the money only cus you built a house in some computer game? That's hillarious.

I`m not an expert, but i think that you would have to ask the Minecraft creators for permission ,before implementing such crypto version of that game.Anyway,i`ve always wanted cryptocurrency mining to be more like a game and not just a bunch of complex math calcuation tasks.I like the consept of blockchain+gaming, but we would have to create a genuine game, not Minecraft.

That's completely false, you can implement this by making a mod or server without getting Mojang's permission and it has been done before.
I think there is even a server that's still online that has an in-game economy that's denominated in Bitcoin.

http://bitquest.co/ -- still exists

I think it's a great idea OP, but the server itself should be fun to play, without the Bitcoin aspect.

Hello, maybe I could create another cryptocurrency, and the 'mining process' could be finding 'gold blocks' and "mine them" in-game. But this could be very slow, I could limit the amount of gold blocks available in game, for example, 5 millon, and the the rarety to find one about 3%. But if this in the future would a normal cryptocurrency with other use cases that would be a problem, because to mine blocks you have to play, and there must always be people playing, to create new blocks and add transaction to them

I dont know if this could work, what do you think?
I think you have to be 100% sure that cheaters don't get away with using mods that can see through dirt and other blocks.
That's really a problem in general, cheaters can be detected, but I'm not sure if there is a way to be 100% sure that people aren't using hacked clients.

Haven't played Minecraft in a really long time, so don't really follow the development.

Are you planning to build your own mod or are there existing mods to incorporate Bitcoin into the in-game economy?
