You don't really need to open ports to connect to the servers, it is the other way around. However it might be due to your work firewall blocking connection.

OK so I'm currently running MinerGate, seems to do what I'm after and don't really know of any alternatives.
At home it's fine, at work however it's not connecting.
I've opened the outbound ports of the pools I want to mine (XMR stratum+tcp://xmr.pool.minergate.com:45560) and changed my firewall settings.

Basically, is there a port that isn't listed that needs to be opened in order for me to connect?

Thanks
Jay

At work you are probably behind VPN or Proxy and this causes problems. It is best to put your problem on an official topic https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.26198403
