you can put your hardware to use on Nicehash or rent your hashpower on MiningRigRentals (link in my sig to both sites) to earn some bitcoins w/o headache of selling coins on an exchange. For nicehash you just need to download their miner and it will setup pretty easy and will mine most profitable coin available.

Well, I started mining Ethereum now. Is profit higher when mining ZCash? And what about other currencies?

Once you have got a miner working and you know your hash rate just use the above sites then decided for yourself. Profit changes constantly but atm generally zcash and monroe are most profitable.

You should mine monroe with your cpu for sure

Hello,
at first, I apologize for my English as I'm not a native speaker.
I'm high school student and I'm kinda exploring altcoin world. And of course, I'm interested in mining some, however, I haven't got any special mining hardware at all (just Core i5 and nVidia GeForce 1060). Is there any altcoin that's possible to mine with just plain PC and get some profit? And yes, I'm fine with holding the coins for few months, waiting for a rise in the price of the altcoin. And of course, some tips on mining software are welcome.

Thanks.
