Filecoin is under development and there isn’t a official recommendation for a minimum requirements of a Filecoin Mining Rig. So don’t buy any hardware just yet, you can comeback later for further update.
In this article, we provide you some information for your own knowledge and reference. It comes from the latest test in STANDARD TESTING CONFIGURATION FOR FILECOIN MAINNET.
What makes a mineable Filecoin mining rig?2 TB of hard drive space (HDD or SSD). Support Hot Plug (add and remove hard drive while the rig is running)
8 core CPU like Core i7, i9
128 GiB of RAM (If you only have 128GiB of RAM, enabling 256GB of Non-Volatile Memory Express swap on an SSD will help you avoid out-of-memory issues while mining)
GPUs are a must for getting block rewards as SNARKs generation required. Currently only GeForce graphic cards are test but more AMD cards can be used in the future.
GeForce RTX 2080 Ti
GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER
GeForce RTX 2080
GeForce GTX 1080 Ti
GeForce GTX 1080
GeForce GTX 1060
The Hard Drives are the ones you are going to invest the most for your Filecoin mining rig. Thus we provide below the list of Hard drive price per TB so you can choose.
In ideal configuration, we will want fast hard drive read/write speed and more hard drive space. However, as SSD price per TB still high (make long ROI time) and Internet Connection Speed in most of miners is much slower than the read/write speed of a regular cache HDD drive, 5400 RPM/256MB 3.5inch HDD should do the job. You will need a lot of these as the current cloud storage market is about 2$ per TB per month
