You could mining Ethereum or Monero if you have GPU or you can mining BTC if you have Asic Miner. It's according to what hardware do you have.

correct me If Im wrong,

Masternodes will require you to buy from them a rig for mining?

it requires you to buy and hold a certain amount of coin and set it up as masternode

If you haven't bought any gear yet, mining isn't as good for returns as masternodes are.  They're a great use of older gear, use next to nothing in power and has excellent long term ROI on the coins you buy.  For a full list check out https://masternodes.pro/

My masternode favorites are CRAVE, CROWN, TX and PIVX.

One small piece of advice: if you have to ask the question "which coin to mine"...you probably shouldn't be mining unless you wanna learn through some potentially costly mistakes. Study the whole deal, assess your risk/reward ratio...basically study as much as you can otherwise you're gonna throw yourself into something due to fomo (the fear of missing out) and you'll very likely get burned.

The best coin to mine is the one you have when it goes up 10X+. Finding out which coin that's going to be is up to you. Some good indicators are a coin that solves a problem or implements a solution better than other coins and has an active development team and community.

Really subjective. ^ Those links should be helpful, and there are plenty of similar topics already posted here to look through.
