In view of the last statements of China for cutoff of cheap electricity there is a question of alternative power supplies. Tell the opinion please. Whether this has an idea the future? Shocked

you will never know with Chinese, there are a lot of fake news and lots of exaggerated news. these mining farms in China are one of the main reasons most of the electricity provides (specially the small ones) are alive, the government can not just cut them off and kill a large business like this and put hundreds or possibly thousands out of job. that will have a big impact on their economics. bitcoin mining is not just some dude in his underwear in the basement mining bitcoin, it has actually created lots of jobs and sustains lots of businesses.

as for solar panels, it is possible but it is always so much easier to transfer your farm to some place else out of the jurisdiction!

i'm personally planning to hook up some solar panels on the balcony at my apartment for my little miners. why not?

How large are your panels, how much electricity can it generate and how many watts of electricity does your  miners generate?

There is also the problem of how much Bitcoins can you expect to make from your "little miners"? Maybe it is better to mine an altcoin instead?

Please pm me the details, it would be a good side project.

Bitcoin mining requires good electrical supply so I think solar batteries will experience difficulties unless there's so much space to put such numbers of solar panel and it will surely cost a lot for miners but if they think this will generate good income and they can give enough capital for this it's still up to them mining is still profitable so I think they can recover whatever expense they will incurred.

This idea has been raise by a lot of people, unfortunately the solar panel is costing a lot of money and the area to put the panel is quite large and solar panel only can be used in day time, with that huge spending and little earning, it will make the ROI become longer

How about to use electricity directly from hydroelectric power station? It`s very cheap and a lot of it just dont used. Is even saw ICO with such idea: HydroMiner. They will get electricity for 85% price lower than average on EU market.

Re: Mining a farm on solar batteries?Huh

Won't work, areas of the world that produce enough solar power to attempt this ,
will all be too hot from a temperature aspect, as your cooling requirements will be paramount so your ASICS don't overheat.

The very best place would be cool air temps with a hydroelectric , which is why that is where most are located now.
or
Somewhere like Iceland where the air temps alone can keep your asics cool and geothermal sources, that you can convert to cheap electricity.

Or

Convert the coin to Proof of Stake so you don't have to worry about energy usage at all, like ZEITWink

using alternative sources for generating electricity always have a couple of issues, the main one is the efficiency of these methods which is not always as you wish. sometimes they give you a low efficiency and that makes the whole mining process non-profitable.

the other issue is the initial investment. which is sometimes pretty expensive specially if you want some high efficiency equipment for example in case of solar panels, you have to buy the good ones and install them which will cost a lot. of course a mining farm which is earning a lot of money can do it but only if they are in a location which has direct sun 90% of the year and little to no cloudy sky for example.

If I remember correctly, back in 2014 this was a big consideration for people considering getting into mining, and the consensus is that there is a massive investment to get the entire rig working, on top of mining costs, and it takes forever to pay off since the scaling isn't exactly favorable when it comes to being able to run a rig 24/7 on solar energy.

As a supplement, sure solar energy can be effective and useful, but for most full-scale solar mining farms, you need the equivalent of 2x the hardware electrical generation and batteries. Cutting down costs through supplemental solar generation is marginally valuable.

I am a Chinese, no matter what kind of situation, if the exploitation of bitcoin can be profitable, then in the case of electricity is not very high, there will be someone to exploitation of bitcoin.

Mining is the best method to earn bitcoin more and more but there are a big issue of electricity price. But know there is a good solution of electricity problem that is solar system. so now if any one want to wish to do mining then i will suggest him to install solar system through which you can get free electricity with out any problem.

Bitcoin mining is a continues 24x7 operating process.
It becomes possible only by  having good internet, cheap electricity, and a colder climate to keep hardware cool.
So bitcoin mining is possible only where cheap electricity is available.
One more option is there of solar or wind energy.
Wind energy is quiet expensive and its possible where wind flows continuously.
Electricity by using solar panels is the best option.
China is the world's largest market for both photovoltaics and solar thermal energy.
Since 2013 China has been the world's leading installer of solar photovoltaics.
That is why mining activity is leading in china.
Ban on bitcoin by china is a big setback to bitcoin industry.

It's plausible. Solar power technology has come a long way, but you might need an excessively large surface area of solar panels and not to mention ample sunlight to be able to satisfy a mining farm's needs.

But yeah, we as a community do need to be looking into alternative solutions when it comes to energy as governments around the world crack down on mining. Electricity abuse and green initiatives are very convenient excuses to push for bans with little resistance. We can't give them an easy way out.

Sure it will be done, solar-panels are dirt cheap in china

It's called an RV battery dude, "Deep Cycle"

My costs are about $500 USD per solar-rig, using Chinese made panels, shit it would be butt ugly if they started covering up the land with panels

More than likely they'll just tax them and the shit will continue

The big dams just went online a few years ago, there was excess electricity, but jealousy goes deep in china, about someone getting rich on public property

This story BS like everything else,

It will take more than electricity price to kill china, remember they still make 99% of the ASIC HW for BTC.
