With the upcoming LTC halving, i do no know how well scrypt mining will do and its happening pretty soon. If you want something (a bit more) stable, i'd go with BTC.

I rather try my luck on the alt coins, these are far easier to mine.

they are equal at this point, from a profit point of view, altcoin are not so much more profitable than mining bitcoin directly anymore, it still about having cheap electricity

and with altcoin you don't need almost 5 tera to have a decent income

thats the key, the cheap electricity so if you are able to minning with cheap electricity you are like a privileged.

about if you should mine btc or ltc is up to you but i think if i was you with cheap/free electricity i will go for btc Wink

I am looking at a 4.9 th/s miner and i was wondering if it was better to mine litecoins or bitcoins amnd how much would I make about

After you take into consideration the previous posts, you can use one of the online calculators to have a basic idea of what, if any, profit you would make (excluding costs for setting up and maintaining the equipment): http://www.coinwarz.com/cryptocurrency.

bitcoin using SHA (https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Protocol_documentation)

litecoin using scrupt (https://litecoin.info/Scrypt)

basically this means, that if you want to mine with ASIC (nothing else is profitable anymore), you have to decide to buy SHA or scrypt HW. how much really depends on your electricity cost, luck and initial budget.

A Bitcoin miner can't mine Litecoin directly, and vice-versa - so if you're looking at a Bitcoin miner, then you already have your answer by elimination.

( There's some miners that can mine both Bitcoin and Litecoin, by virtue of either a chip that can mine both - i.e. from Gridseed, SFARDS - or being a box with separate mining boards. )
