cast_XMR_vega good miner for all AMD. vega about min. 2010 h/s rx480 about min. 980 h/s. If you have good timing you may more hashrate.

Hi all,

My first post on the forums!  Roll Eyes

So I'm setting up a mining rig. I've bought all the gear and should be assembling a custom frame etc by early Feb ready to go. I'm just doing some more research into platforms and was hoping to tap into the brain trust here for advice.

I'm starting with 4x Vega 64, but with the possibility to scale on this one rig to 13 cards on the H110 (although I understand once you hit 6 or so stability is an issue).

Background: I use Arch Linux as my daily driver on my personal machine (a beat up, lovable old X220) and while I was looking into Windows alternatives I of course came across Simpleminer and Ethos. I've also got a smidge of Python and Bash skills. I'd prefer to use open-source OS if it doesn't effect profitability too much, but it's not a red line. I'd be mining XMR or some other alts that are more profitable atm, like ETN or SUMO.

So my questions are:

  • Seen as there's a few comprehensive guides (e.g. this one) on setting up Vegas to reach 1900H/s or 2000H/s on Win10/Cryptonite, is it worth it to try another route?
  • If the answer to that is 'yes' or 'maybe', does it make much difference using one of the packaged distros as opposed to, say, a clean Lubuntu install?
  • Could I get similar hashrates on a Linux distro with some tweaking?
  • Anything else I should be aware of?

Thanks!
