May be...Move out of ethermine with the small hashrates.
Try another pool.

Yooo 40% stales!! I would throw that rig outta the 14th floor bro.
Guys last night I started mining again on ethermine with the phoenixminer.
Since last week Ive been having a lot of problems with my rig, but luckily last night it seemed to be pretty stable and I was submitting maximum of 7 stales, around 6-7% of my speed, which I consider a real win. If you want try to mine with that miner also.
I have also had a lot of problems with the Claymore's miner due to always freezing and crashing the rig - that's why I switched.
Just try and tell me if that has resolved at some level the issue.
Wish you all a happy and not-so-much-stale-share-submitting mining Cheesy

Hi,

No better last night, this appears to come in waves (looks like a bell curve going from ~2-3% all the way up to 10-13%, then back down) happens several times periodically over 24 hours, something must be up on ethermines side, either pool power increase drastically or ping from their servers to the user rises periodically causing stale shares. For one hour I was down to 0% stale, then within another hour up to 10%.

Really would like to know why or if something can fix it,

Also did anyone have an answer about the Minergate question I posed? I honestly can't find a definite answer anywhere about why it is so low,

Thanks!

Yes, everyone is experiencing the same. Pretty annoying to be looking at 135-140 effective average hashrate when I see 155 in the Claymore miner's window (5xRX570).
However I was not getting more profit when I was switching the rig to Nanopool, even though it reported the full hashrate.

The last 6 hours seems to be ok, about 3-4% stale shares.

I am getting the same about 5-15% stale with ethermine. Would hate to move to a different crypto but what else is there to do.  Anyone got better results with a different pool?

Hi all,

Just started mining with Claymore the last few days an using Ethermine pool (us1 4444), have noticed peaks of very high stale shares as well, not sure why.

All cards are RX 580 4GB, using Claymore 10.6 (latest) single mode (ETH), stock settings / compute mode / fans turned up.

I have had as high as 39% stale shares for a moment a couple days ago (overnight) before getting all workers going, now monitored over a few days, at about 120 MH/S, after 16 hours of mining overnight into today my stale rate was about 2-5%, however over the last two hours it is closer to 15%, no idea what causes these spikes in stale shares, all cards are good and it appears to be totally random in which cards generate the stale shares (no one system is generating noticeably more than another), can go hours at <5%, but then a few hours at >10% for no explanation.

Hardline Vs. Wifi seems to make no difference, hardline system gets stale shares just the same as Wifi, in fact the hardline system is at 18% last hour rn. Ping is 48 MS for accepted shares on hardline, still stale shares.

Any ideas??

Unrelated, Minergate 7.2 (sucks I know) only gives me 10 MH/S per RX 580, wth is going on with that? I know Minergate steals hashrate, but do they honestly steal HALF of your hashrate or more?? I switched to Claymore obviously, but I want to know why Minergate only gives 10 MH/S...

Thanks!
Paul

First post!!!!!

Im seeing the same thing here. I've been mining on Ethermine for a month and have not seen over 5%.... and today its 12%.

It's getting really bad. 39% stale for me now. What's going on?

The problem is the speed/time.

By the time you solve a problem and submit a share to the pool, someone else already solved and submited before you = stale share.
The rate at which Ethermine gets new blocks is ridiculous, so when you submit your share, we are already mining a new block.

Having the same problem as you guys! Im getting constantly 7-12-15% stale shares, which annoys me really. Last night when I saw 15% stale shares got fcking tilted and changed to mine qbic. Tell me if you find a solution.

The stale shares on Ethermine went up dramatically after the Byzantium fork back in October. I think the fixed share difficulty that Ethermine uses is too low for the 15 second block times since the Byzantium fork, which causes too many stale shares. I switched to Nanopool that uses a higher share difficulty and my estimated hashrate on Nanopool is much closer to my reported hash rate.

Nanopool doesn't report stale shares and it combines both valid and stale into calculated/SMA.

Nanopool uses a fixed 10000MH difficulty, which means it's 60% higher than what Ethemine uses.

so... is better nanopool or ethermine?

okay, it became 10000MH since 6 of January 2018 according to their twitter, I used to mine when it was 5000MH

The same situation I have too. I don't trust statistics which is displayed on the pool. I switched to another pool. All the same. The other figures but the income is the same. Let's hope that this is temporary. In any case, I do not see a better option. After hacking and the introduction of new rules I'm not going back to nicehash.

You get more shares with Ethermine because they use a lower share difficulty. Lower difficulty =  more shares worth less each e.g. 100 shares at diff 4000MH are worth exactly the same percentage of a block as 40 shares at diff 10000MH. Using lower share difficulty for higher hash rates is inefficient because you are getting work and submitting shares more often, increasing the load on the pools stratum which can lead to stale shares.

Based on the fixed 4000MH difficulty Ethermine uses, your miner should be getting 60% more shares on Ethermine to be equal to the amount of shares at a fixed 10000MH diff for Nanopool.

nanopool diff is 5000MH not 10000MH, anyway I see better payout on ethermine.

i have change from ethermine to nanopool to check if i can have a better hashrate. i know nanopool just dont show the stales shares but i read somewhere else that they changed the diff so less shares but bigger so maybe less stales. i will see in a couple of days

I switched from nanopool to ethermine. even if I receive approx. 5% of stale shares, I get better payout and number of shares increased 20%, comparing to nanopool.

switching pools not that easy unless you have alot of hashpower due to the .05 minimum. I guess when I finally get to the .05, I'll switch and try dwarfpool. On Ethermine my hashrate is 55mh, and my calculated is 45mh, thats 20% loss......not an acceptable amount.

It is a problem that the pools need to address.

I was on nanopool, had 2 cards hashing Eth and with about 55 mh I was getting miner down notifications constantly even though they were hashing fine. No shares were being found. I decided to switch from nanopool to ethermine and now I'm finding shares but my 1070 is logging 10% stale shares about 60% of the time....strange the 1060 has not logged any stale shares.

Other pools also have the same issue, they just don't report stale shares. It is totally normal for ethereum to have a small number of stale shares - they are being rewarded as well anyway.

After Byzantium update block times are shorter now. If your gfx card is computing a share from a block which was already found, its a stale share. Stale shares are a bit higher for everyone now but mine are still  around %3 on ethermine. If you have low hashing power i suggest you mining on a less crowded pool.

I think this is indeed the issue as I mine on ethermine and only have a few % total stales, but I have a fair amount of miners pointed there. If I look at an individual miner's stats they can range anywhere from 0% stales up to 8%, but the average of all my miners is only 3%.

So while the shorter block times are causing more stales in general, I think it is just more noticeable for smaller hashrate users than it is for larger miners. It's probably just normal variance and you don't notice it when the stale rates are lower, but when you see a 8 or 10% in the stales column you think suddenly something is wrong. Check back in a few hours and I suspect it will have dropped again.

Guys try editing your batch file to include "-ethi 7"

(default is 8 ).

Report back on whether the share have gone down.
Ive noticed a 2-3% drop in stale shares.

I don't know why too but I'm in the same "problem"

Above correctly, we recommended changing the pool to a Dwarfpool. I myself have long since left the Ethermine.
And what does the miner say about the slates? In HWinfo there are no memory errors?

I don't have any memory errors, I'll try Dwarfpool

Everyone is experiencing this due to lower block times.  Have to wait for Pools to fix it or we just deal with it.

Don't know the reason yet but it is 7-10% since
I am also on ethermine.
Can anyone confirm who is using a different pool is facing the same?

Hi there. Just as the title suggests.

Miner: Claymore 10.0 -mode 1 (eth only)
GPU: 3 GTX 1060's. PL 70/Core 0/mem +675.
Temps 68-73C across all cards
OS: Win 7 Pro 64 bit.
Pool: Ethermine.org

The rig has been running with the same hardware for months but Ive started noticing a huge rise in stale shares in the last week or so.
Any idea how I can reduce the number of stale shares please.
Thanks.

How can I check the stale shares on nanopool??

With ethminer stale shares are about the same , some hours are high some hours are low, thats why i stopped mining ETH it doesnt worth the efforts except if you own a big mining farm.

Yep from fork almost always I have much biger stale shares then in past.
Maybe problems with miner or with pool, we need find where is issue.
Do someone mine with etherminer or some other miner to compare stales with clymore?
