There are residential electricity rates, commercial and industrial. If you buy a house you will pay residential rate. The best would be to buy/rent a warehouse and get the industrial rate which might be 45 times less than residential. A lot of industrial warehouses already have 600-1000A main panels so you would not have to upgrade those.

I'm currently planning to start a large mining operation (not super large).
But I am considering should I buy a house or rent some place or even rent like a store front to store mining rigs?
As I understand it, houses probably have 200 amp circuit panels. Most circuits use 15 amp. So does this mean each circuit panel can only handle about 13 circuits running at ~80% load meaning about 13 mining rigs per 200 amp circuit panel?

Am I able to call electric company or electrician to install new 200 amp circuit panels and if so is there a limit?

I would like to just use 1 house. I may just buy a cheap house and use it mainly for mining purposes.

Also another idea I had was to just get a shed to save on cost. Am I able to install 200 amp circuit panels in the shed?

80% is too high load at 24/7 so should to reduce that load, also do not forget about wires heating during constant load an of course fire safety

Do not get into mining right now man.  Dont you read this forum?  just take that cash or capital you have and start a hedge fund investing in crypto with it.

why not putting all money (no house buying but rigs instead) in rigs and host them in a data centre near you? Thought about the ROI for all that costs? OK if money is no issue for you and you think long term...success!

I would do that.  I would have them hosted and while you have them hosted, keep a couple home and tinker with them.  I wouldnt recommend turning a house into a farm unless you seriously know what you are doing.  Little by little learn and then one day turn a house into a farm if thats your wish...whatever you do have a qualified electrician come in and inspect everything.  By the basic questions you asked i would say you arent qualified to know.  Dont burn down your house

Could solar panels be efficient for this kind of projects? D:

Also, you need to consider the heat! Shocked I had 100A service with 15A breakers, and you can run around 10-12 GPUs MAX on each circuit. While waiting for my shed to be complete, i had rigs literally all over the whole house. My AC ran 24/7 and never shut off, during the day it would reach 85 on the 2nd floor. The AC is a wasted expense. The best solution is to just exhaust the heat.

Even if you upgraded the service to 200A or 400A, the underground wires that power the home would need to be re-pulled. Can the transformer handle the extra load? Does it have enough terminations avail? How much to upgrade the service?

In US, you can ask the city for additional 200 amp panels (total 400), usually you have to call an electrician whom had permit to the city that you are living in, and you have to explain to the city exactly what you are planning to do with all that power that you are installing on your residential house.. (cost around $2500 to $4000 for the installation of additional panel + new 400 amp meter).
More than that you probably need to rent a business office somewhere else...

Switch all of your wires to L6-30P circuit 240v 30A (30A double pole), and get yourself some of these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007YG85A/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. Each PSU should able to give you 24A continuous power @240v.

Not all houses have 200 Amp service, but you can always call the electric company and have them come out and upgrade your service, this is going to be your main limiting factor.
If your main purpose for buying the house is to mine in it, your probably going to lose money, I just can't imagine a house only used for mining purposes, a shed on the other hand is a viable option, but it would do you good to research it a little more.  You will need a breakdown of your costs associated with setting it up and know how to cool it and secure it.  The electric company should be able to install a new 200 amp circuit onto a shed, then you just need to run outlets from that.  As others have said, you would be better to run 240v off of it, but again, it all depends on what your plan is.

Cooling is also going to be a problem for you, research what others have done with a shed and how they cool and secure it, will go a long way to helping you decide if it is worth it or not.

Whoa,

Slow down.

1) Yes, most modern houses have a main panel that can source 200A, but check the main panel first!!

a) The main panel will have X amps of breakers already installed. Therefore you could only add the difference between 200A and whats installed.

2) What you want to do is complicated by several concerns:

a) If you are renting a house AND just using it for a farm, the owner's insurance is structured around the use of the house as a single family dwelling. Not as a light industry workspace. If the house is in an HOA, there are possibly even more restrictions. Most HOA's want the homes to be used as a single family dwelling, not for example as a car repair business.

My advice to you is to look for a storefront/warehouse/light industrial space if you can't do this at the place where you are living. You most likely won't have electrical panel and usage restrictions.

CALL THE LOCAL ELECTRIC COMPANY AND ASK THEM

I would like to just use 1 house. I may just buy a cheap house and use it mainly for mining purposes.
CHEAP HOUSE PROBABLY HAVE A CHEAP ELECTRICAL WIRING , AND NOT ENOUGH INCOMING AMPS

Also another idea I had was to just get a shed to save on cost. Am I able to install 200 amp circuit panels in the shed?
CALL THE LOCAL ELECTRIC COMPANY AND ASK THEM , contact your local authority for more information and advice

First off, you should be using 240v for anything sizeable to reduce waste electricity and optimize your amperage. I use a 30amp breaker/outlet and push up to 6000w (80%) on it. A typical mining rig uses roughly 800w or even less, so you could run about 50 rigs if the entire panel was dedicated to rigs.
