The trouble with 6990 is that it uses a LOT of power which will increase your bills.
You are best off getting a 7950 / 7970 or even wait for the 7990

Thanks for the info guys...

Will keep looking to learn more before I decide what to do Wink

I'm hoping to get some of these good cards as second-hand from some gamer friends I have (if they have) as some of them are always upgrading to the 'latest best GPU' for gaming...
Fingers crossed!

So, here are some questions for the experts:

1. Is that table still valid, i.e. from experience, is it true what I wrote above?
2. What should one look for in the specs of a card for LTC mining? Engine Clock, Memory Clock, memory bandwidth, all of them?
What is vital for LTC mining?
3. If you know of any other hardware or brand good for mining LTC can you pls share?

Thanks in advance for your time!

Hi,

1.) Found the 6990 hard to obtain, never used it. The 7970 are very nice though. I get 750kHash/s at
core 1000/mem 1450. Stock values were 925/1375.
2.) Engine clock is most important. The higher the better. Memory clock is said to be kept at certain ratio to core clock, like 0.57-0.59 for optimum performance, but I couldn't verify that. The higher the core clock, the better. Memor bandwidth is pretty much irrelevant.
3.) GPUs are of utmost importance. No big requirements for the other stuff. Go for a quality PSU though, make sure it has sufficient power. 7950 or 7970 are best choice for LTC at the moment imho.

Have fun!

This may not answer your question, but my 7950 slightly overclocked running pretty heavy can do about 500KH/s. Teamed with my old 4870 I average a total KHs of about 600-650.

Hope that helps in your search or clarification.

So I decided to check what's the current best harware for mining LTC...

According to this page https://github.com/litecoin-project/litecoin/wiki/Mining-hardware-comparison
the best 'chip/device' with the most kHash/s is the AMD Radeon™ HD 6990 Graphics @ ~900kH/s.

I'm comparing it to their latest family, i.e. the series 7, and the latest is the AMD Radeon™ HD 7970 Graphics although there is the AMD Radeon™ HD 7970 GHz Edition with slightly better specs.
Back to the hardware comparison chart, the 'normal' 7970 doesn't match up with the 6990 as it clocks in @ 769kH/s (always according to that page).

So, here are some questions for the experts:

1. Is that table still valid, i.e. from experience, is it true what I wrote above?
2. What should one look for in the specs of a card for LTC mining? Engine Clock, Memory Clock, memory bandwidth, all of them?
