If your going to mine on a computer make sure you are mining alt coins that use scrypt. These can not be mined by these huge mining hardware and because of this are more profitable to mine than bitcoin with a computer. Look at various websites online (google search) and you can see which ones are more profitable at the time than bitcoin (will range up to about 300% more profitable)

You should still set it up and play with it to learn how it works. Definitely don't keep it actually running though because you're just going to raise your power bill and lose money.

You can best just buy BTC or earn free BTC. You'll need an expensive mining rig if you want to earn some real money.

Yes, the best way to make btc is to sell your service for it.
Or buy it, if you have spare money.

A graphics card (aka GPU) makes a much more powerful miner. A top GPU can mine about 700 megahash (700,000,000) per second. It will mine about 0.00007% of the 3600 bitcoins per day. That's a lot more than a CPU, but it is still not worthwhile because it still doesn't pay for the electricity.

Not true for Scrypt alternative coins, I mine with my GPU with slight profit

Is there any way to mine BTC using your own computer instead of having specific BTC mining hardware.
The big and important question is :
Is this mining thing profitable. How much you can get and in how much time.
I am a newbie in mining. How should i get started.
Expert opinion is required but in a language that a newbie like me can understand.

The amount of bitcoins you mine depends on the processing power of your mining hardware. This is measured in hashes per second. Currently the total amount of processing power devoted to mining is about 1 petahash per second, that's 1,000,000,000,000,000 hashes per second.

If your CPU can mine 50 megahash (50,000,000) per second, then it will mine about 0.000005% of the 3600 bitcoins mined in a day (about 0.00018 BTC or $.02). It is not worthwhile mining with a CPU because the electricity costs more than the value of the BTC you mine. You are better off buying BTC, instead.

A graphics card (aka GPU) makes a much more powerful miner. A top GPU can mine about 700 megahash (700,000,000) per second and it will mine about 0.00007% of the 3600 bitcoins per day (about 0.0025 BTC or $0.33). That's a lot more than a CPU, but it is still not worthwhile because it still doesn't pay for the electricity.

I hope that answers your questions.
