I'm not sure if gtx970 will be good on octopus algorithm, that coin is very profitable and almost near the profits you would get when mining Ethereum, way better than ETC, Zhash and ravencoin just checked for you. The gtx970 got some speed but the let down will be it's memory which is 4gb I believe so the best option here is to mine profitable coins that still allows 4gb memory, for example you will make good gains from conflux (octopus algorithm) and also bitube (cuckaroo29b), spend your time on these two algorithm instead
when I tried octopus with TRex using nice hash it gave me "error during benchmark" currently I'm mining ZHash with gminer using nice hash and I'm getting 0.00001 btc a day it's at 26sol/s such a bummer considering my gpu is almost as powerful as an rx 570 4gb

i never had gtx970 but i heard it has only 3.5g memory which is not enough for eth even zombie mode will not help. current eth dag is more 4g.
