Id love to know how this works.

I am very NOT interested in hearing people say it is not worth it.

I couldn't care less about your damn opinions, let the man explain this to the masses please.

Thank you (Yes I am angry that everyone just says -- eh its not worth it -- all mining is of interest.. so it is worth it. Done and done ...)

Thanks in advance,

Not going to get much at 269 kH/s, but it proves you can hack the Apple TV to run cgminer. Pretty cool!

Hey, sorry, was away from the boards for a while.  The appleTV is jailbroken, not flashed with linux.  There were a few hurdles w/r to some library dependencies but it was a (relatively) painless process.

I'm a little swamped with work right now, but as soon as I get some time I'll document the steps it took to get things running.  I'm kicking myself for not taking better notes because I want to do the same things with my other appleTV =-(

Done and done. CGMiner running on my appleTV v2. Now I just need a BitForce 5 GH/s SC....

Did you just jailbreak it or you flashed it with Linux?

I just stumbled on this post.  Did you get anywhere with this?  I had the exact same idea, if you can get CGMiner running on an appleTV it would be a perfect host box for a BFL ASIC.  I'm working on getting it done right now, if you succeeded let me know if you have any pointers, thanks!

I doubt that you could find mining software that runs on Apple TV.   You can probably install Linux on it, but it may not be worth it.   BFL has 100,000 chips on the way, and I am going to bet that most will be sold in not too long, if not already.   Those chips will produce maybe 700tH/s depending on the ratio of Jalepeno's to the faster units.   This will push network difficulty to 100,000,000+ and your Jalepeno will be producing maybe 0.6 BTC/month.   $8 at today's price.   You can figure out the ROI on that . . .
He wants to use the TV as a host for his jalapenos to keep down the power costs. However, that probably won't be possible due to how iOS works.

Unless you can run Linux or Windows on it. I don't think you can run cgminer/other miners on IOS so it could be better off to just buy a cheap Linux TV or something like that.

I know the idea may be a little crazy  Roll Eyes, maybe, but using a microUSB OTG, it will be possible to do something in the Apple TV 2 Jailbroken? Consumes 2.9W maximum, so I think is great.

I was thinking that if it were possible, to use jalapenos on it.

Thanks for your time  Grin
