Mining with Chromebook (Samsung) possible?

The thing is that Chromebooks don't have fan noise, don't heat, take ten secs to start on or off, don't lag even with fifty dynamic tabs, meaning, they have no coins.

So even if it's really low (with a $300 machine as powerful for browsing the web as an $5000 Alienware), they still can mine with a Flash or HTML5 app. they

Probably cheaper to buy an old netbook (The Dell Inspiron Mini 10v is ideal as it's fanless) and run Linux on it. Or even the low-end versions of Windows 7 would work (Windows 7 Starter would do it).

sowbug gave the most elegant solution, I'm not that good a coding so I did a dual boot with Linux, that's easy.

Seriously don't spoil your chrome book, it is totally unefficient at all..

I don't think he's actually mining ON the chromebook. He wants to use the chromebook to run some ASICs. And yes, they are very efficient, using ~10W on idle.

Running a mining program through the ChromeOS? Prolly not.

However, like others have said, these do run Linux. And basically anything that can run linux can download and compline CGMiner, which can do what you want.

The ChromeOS platform is capable of supporting your Block Erupters, but you'll have to write an app. A Block Erupter uses the CP2102 USB-to-serial bridge, and Chromebooks do recognize that chip (I just checked; it appears as a serial device under /dev/USB0). The Chrome Apps platform offers a serial API that you can use to communicate with the device, as well as a socket API in case you need something more sophisticated than XHR for stratum server long-polling.

The rest is a small matter of writing the mining client. While that's not a small task, it's completely doable with ChromeOS platform, and what would be pretty cool about it is that you'd have a cross-platform (Linux/Mac/Win/ChromeOS) controller for CP2102-based mining hardware, and if you ran your Block Erupters on a Chromebook or Chromebox, you'd have the extra peace of mind that malware wasn't going to steal your Bitcoin.

hmmmm.... Interesting idea...Not worth it IMHO but I have two chromebooks so let me go test it.

Because Chrome OS does not support Java Grin

Also the BE would most likely need drivers for ChromeOS, since they require drivers for windows to work.

Oh well it was worth trying.
