That worked.

This coin still has a lot of assets that most other older staking coins don't have!!!

Working explorer, website, history, a reason to run the wallet.

Hello, anyone still staking this?  Finally got some extra space to boot the wallet and no connections to wallet.
I will look for explorer and see what I can find.

Fuck BlackRock
Could use some more deposits at SouthExchange.  the price is equal to Unnamed:

Unnamed:                   Sell in Doge   0.00450000  Doge
Southexchange            Sell in Bitcoin 0.000000003 BTC

Unnamed:                   Sell in Doge   0.00450000  Doge   x 1000 MINT   =  4.50000  DOGE  = 0.22 cents
Southexchange            Sell in Bitcoin 0.000000003 BTC   x 1000 MINT   =  0.00000300 BTC = 15 cents

I bought a big amount of MINT on SouthXchange the other day. I am doing a fresh install of the wallet to see how long it takes - I am also seeding the last snapshot still because I do believe in that to help support network protocols but I also abandoned an attempt to bootstrap from there because it was over 12 hours and I had about three days from the bootstrap date. Smiley Maybe its because it syncs in blocks and not hours and the estimation has a flaw? Somewhere connected to the pure PoS once PoW coin?

OK so it turns out I had a typo in the shortcut so it was not quite hitting the right directory... whoops...

After figuring that out, it took forever to load the wallet (guessing while it was validating the block files) then finally opened and showed about ~300k blocks to synch. What is odd is it is going WAY slower than it was when it was starting from scratch. I would say it's doing about 1-2 blocks a second, and occasionally stalling for short periods of time. When it was loading the entire blockchain from the beginning, it was doing more like 20+ blocks a second... is that normal?

At this rate it will still take a day or two more to synch the rest of the way, which seems odd for only a couple months of data (again the bootstrap covers up to 9/25/20.) I am generally getting anywhere from 8-25 connections to the network at a time.

I just downloaded the latest client and grabbed the bootstrap (which is from the end of Sept 2020) and extracted it into the proper directory.

Ran the wallet and it seems to be working fine, but it is telling me over 7mil blocks remaining... does that make sense? Is it really just verifying the blocks from the bootstrap, or downloading everything from scratch. It seems like it will take at least 1-2 days minimum at the current rate. I figured it would be faster with using the bootstrap.

Just want to make sure I am not doing something wrong.

Wallet acted weird two days ago.  I got about 30 bad stakes one day and then it (I believe) crashed.  I may have stopped it since I run other wallets but all those bad stakes are weird.

Keep trading this coin or SouthExchange may delist.  They just delisted Zeitcoin.   It took about 3 weeks to sync this wallet.  I hope a team can come up and support this coin.

Would be nice if you can just put the bootstrap as a file on the site.  It's more professional to not make one's coin only for more advanced users.  Plus, like I said, the torrent client is giving an error.

Looks like the bootstrap is a torrent link. Do you have a torrent client installed and running?

No, haven't done that.  Any suggestions for a good one?

I use qBittorrent

Thanks.  I used qBittorent and I was getting an error saying it was looking for variables in the link that weren't there.  It's on another machine that I cannot read right now.

Coin has a website and a good exchange.  Good art and good staking percentage.  Building a block explorer would be a great project for people interested in learning more about crypto.  There are YouTube videos on how to do it.  I have them dl'd if not still there.

Until something big happens, mint remains another project that had huge potential thrown onto the ever-increasing pile of shitcoins.

Let the github history speak about possibility of something big to happen. If there are only very light activity, with a very small commit happens once per few month - what are the possibility to deliver something big? About zero. So most probably second part of your sentence is on the way.

^^^ 100%

I'm just salty seeing these old projects die.

If I remember correctly, I think mint was the first POS coin...now, unknown. Shame.

It doesn't need Dev.  It needs a decent Block Explorer.  Which can be hired out and funded by 'community'.

If you want new and shiny things, maintain MINT as a clunky but stable value coin.
Then devs can come build things on top of the VALUE.
How?  Easy ... just fork like BSV like BCH before ... like the 100s of BTC spinoffs.
Or the future way ... just issue corresponding tokens.

BUILD VALUE by being old and established.

I started a thread on how to take over good coins which have some community support but no devs.  It should be recent in the threads I started in my profile.  I'm not saying it has everything in it but it could be added to.  All these decent percentage staking coins I think are the original spirit of cryptocurrency.

I been holding a metric ton of mint since 14' or 15' and was a huge fan back in the day.

Sad to see no communication from the team.

The wallet sync is laughable...going on 2 weeks 24/7 and I was only 18 months behind.

Convince me otherwise...

It says even if you have one mintcoin, you still earn 5% on it, unlike other coins that have to reach a threshold of many to get any stakes.

Anybody still here?

this coin has been in the market for so long already. but the team needs to give us updates on whether they still have something to offer to the community. Since this a new thread for them, I'm expecting a more active dev team that will make their community more visible.

It will be a real shame if all these old school projects die... I still have hope.

The problem is with crystallization of crypto space into a big number of fuzzy unstable balls aiming to create their own infrastructure around their fuzziness to allure speculators or sponsors in. No one cares anymore about whether the product is old, whether its concrete and whether people behind it exactly do anything to make it shine. Its all about fucking speculation.

The fundamentals are solid, the use case is good, we just need to get people excited about Mint. I'm not a marketing wiz but, it would seem that we all should be mentioning Mint wherever and when ever possible. We are the best marketing tool Mint has, lets use that to our advantage.

Ahhh. POS- another way for the rich to get richer. Great idea!

Let's be fair is that not how it works with proof of work? The most efficient machines cost the most upfront. The rich get richer and resell the machines down the road, we all know bitmain does that.

OK, lets be fairer....

How much weight for staking do you get when you own fewer than 1% of total coins? When one doesn't have a large enough weight they never get a stake. This is why POS is for the rich not for the poor. Cost is $17K to own 1%.

You are completely wrong!

I own way less than 1% and every 20 days I get my reward.

Stop spreading lies! Try it for yourself, ok?
Well, looks like you don't know how the PoS blockchain works. Every single holder will eventually get the stake even with 0.0000001% of total coins, but it takes more longer.

Hello Minting Friends!

As you may know, the Mintcoin-Central.com website has been down for a while, and the Website Administrator that runs this account has decided that it will be important to restart on a server running Solaris inside a virtual machine. This i3 server will be maintained with a RAID setup I'd like to discuss either in this thread or the old! The server will host the site, and will have to be protected by mirrors to stay online around the clock.

We can't mine Mintcoin so I will instead make sure the server that maintains the Mintcoin-Central.com website also hosts a Wallet maintained by the Managing Director, this will Mint 24/7 on a Windows 8.1 and will run in tandem.

Unless you want to drive yourself crazy, it would be best to lock the old thread so everyone comes here. Just a suggestion...

We currently have one orange raspberry pi running the MintCoin wallet. We had to use a device with 2gb of ram because of the heavy wallet.
The Pi is running very smooth and even staking. For now this option is only available for the people with some coding knowledge.

MintCoin: Recent Statistics
~MintCoin Original Launch Date: February 06, 2014
The following stats provided by coolbeans94 are based on the most current information as of Dec. 6th, 2016:
According to the best data I can find, MintCoin's POS reward was at the 10% APR for a total of approximately 347 days, and produced 1.3 billion coins in that time. From approximately 22.6 billion coins on 12/21/2015 to 23.9 billion on 12/2/2016. This means the MINT network produced an average of 3.75 million new coins per day during that time. This works out to about a 6.1% APR increase in the money supply. If every MintCoin in existence was consistently minting, then we would expect a 10% increase in the money supply during this time. But this is not the case, and from this we can see that only about 60.1% of the coins were actually actively minted (minting participation rate).

In the last year, minters received approximately 10% APR increase in their coins, while the inflation of the money supply was only 6.1%. So the minter outperforms the increase in the money supply (inflation effects) by approximately 64%.

MintCoin's POS reward is now at 5% APR so all else equal, the money supply will increase by about 650 million coins or 3.05% over the coming year. Minters will receive 5% APR, thus still outperforming the increase in the money supply (inflation effects) by approximately 64%.

The minter, will always outperform the inflation rate because not all coins are minted.
Many coins have been lost over the years and are out of circulation, but all coins that exist are still considered part of the money supply as there is no way to accurately account for them as some may be held on exchanges or offline or not minted for whatever reason. As long as you are consistent to mint at least once per year you will get the full 5% APR which will always be more than the inflation rate.

MintCoin was first launched on February 6th, 2014 through a process called
pre-mine, instead of an Initial Coin Offering (ICO). Its code was originally based
on Novacoin, and for the first five weeks of its life MintCoin was a Proof-ofStake(PoS)/Proof-of-Work(PoW)
hybrid. In April 2014, the pioneering developer
team converted the code, making MintCoin the original Proof-of-Stake coin.
MintCoin was created in response to the disturbingly fast trend toward
centralization, speculation and dumps that has today already consumed many
coins to the point of no return. The ICO hysteria, seemingly monthly hacks, and
an online landscape littered with scams had begun to define blockchain
technology in the narrative of the mainstream media. MintCoin’s creators

foresaw the alarming escalation of power consumption due to Bitcoin mining
and wanted to create a better digital currency that was as environmentally
friendly and energy efficient as possible. Today, MintCoin still requires no
special hardware, and uses extremely minimal resources to maintain the
network.

What MintCoin has become is testament to the work of hundreds of
hardworking collaborators and a strong ethos which underpins the project. The
coin has always been leaderless, green and fairly distributed, and it stands by
the core value of blockchain: transparency. Its source code is available on
GitHub; its community is open to all. This white paper marks the start of the
long term revitalization of MintCoin, beginning in March 2018. This is the latest
chapter in a special story, and the beginning of an exciting future.

MintCoin is moving forward!
