Update:

So after some checking around it appears this mislabeled card is not one that can unlock. So now I have to go through the hassle of sending it back to the retailer.

Last week I received two Visiontek R9 290x retail boxes from an online retailer and I immediately noticed that these two cards do not look the same as the four other Visiontek cards I received from a different retailer. That alone doesn't bother be as I do not care that these two cards are dressed as true AMD reference cards.
What does bother me is that one card seems to run MUCH slower than all of the other cards and for awhile I assumed that perhaps it was a bios issue because the two cards have different BIOS versions. Well now I have learned that may not be the problem. It appears that, accordning to GPUz, the slower card has only 2560 shaders and 160TMUs. All of my other Visiontek cards obviously show 2816 shaders and 176TMUs.

I searched a bit to see if someone else has encountered this problem. Keep in mind both cards came in retail boxes that clearly say (290x), and I paid for them to be as such, so the mistake isn't mine.

 Has anyone else encountered this?

Should I alert the retailer and ask for an exchange or should I just attempt to unlock the card and forget about it?

Thanks
