Well as far a I know the winners gets to tour around the world and their is a monetary reward. And then they can be ambassadors, like in a humanitarian missions or similar. So for other's it might not mean anything. But for the people, specially women, it's like a avenue to be a beauty queen and at the same time, go travel and help a lot of people.

Yeah, I totally forgot about this one as well. If I remember correctly, he had made about women in the past, specially about nuns and female reporters and yet the country continues to produce winners.

I also think that decisions can be influenced but I'm sure sure the whole political agenda is behind. I don't see any incentive whatsoever to governments to bribe judgements just to gain prominence in the word stage.

Those beauty pageants are meant to highlight not just the beauty but the intelligence of the candidates and that issue about whether pia and catriona are pure blooded filipino just dont fvcking make sense, when you love a country and you do your best to be a great citizen then there's nothing wrong with being half blooded, they are sent there not just because their beauties are out of the world but because they have the will and the guts to be a proud citizen. And to add, they are really proud to be a filipina just like what catriona said she stood there not as one but as hundred millions of filipinos and i think that being said by an intelligent woman like her is enough. Love lots from GERMANY lols

Good point, but its all technically right? If either one of their parents is Filipino and they carry Philippine passport then they are still Filipino, at least that's how I interpret it.

Yes, everyone should be proud of their candidates because it proves that they can compete not just with their Asian beauty but with their brains as well. If I remember it correctly, the reigning Miss Universe, Catriona Gray has a masters degree or something, so it speaks about her beauty and intellect.

I didn't explicit say that Duterte is influencing Filipinas to go and win that crown. What I'm trying to drive out is that something is odd, but it could be true that Filipinos take beauty competitions seriously. that's why they are breaking grounds right now in the world of beauty competition.
