Also, we are putting together questions with the moderator and there will be a Q&A.  If there are any questions you think should be asked, put them here, in this thread.

Check out the event page to get an idea of focus/theme.  Then post some questions here!  New perspectives and input is always valued.

I'm working on this event as well.  Here is a small map of the campus and the Vidalakis Dining Hall.  Unless you've gone to school there, the campus can be a little confusing.

This one is going to be really good; Phil Z and Nico Sell alone make it worth attending!  Hope to see some bitcointalkers out there Smiley

Some additional details
  • -   $40 presale tix
  • -   $15 for students, not just Stanford/MIT students
  • -   Food included, and it's usually really good
  • -   Reception is a great opportunity to meet and speak with interesting people

If you can make it, make sure to find Tony or myself (Frank) so that we can invite you to a post-event get together.  Like Tony mentioned, privacy and bitcoin are both very important and the crossover is obvious.  Come on by and let's talk about it all.  This is how we change the world.

Oh, almost forgot, if you do go, I would recommend getting there early, as there is usually food, beverages and socialization (about an hour before the event).  Who knows, you might meet Phil Zimmermann, Nico Sell, or other members of the event panel.

The events are normally at the CEMEX, but it looks like it's now at a smaller venue (I think there was a competing event for CEMEX).  The plus side is that there are fewer people (so there's a better chance to talk to panelists before the event).  The downside of the smaller venue is that tickets may sell out quickly once word gets out.

Hope to see you there.  It should be fun.   Smiley

MIT-Stanford VLAB - Hosting a Privacy Event

VLAB (MIT-Stanford Venture Lab) in Silicon valley is doing an event on Privacy on October 15th, from 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM at Stanford University (in Palo Alto, CA) - Vidalakis Dining Hall.

Panelists will include Philip Zimmerman (PGP + Silent Circle), Nico Sell (Wickr), and Casey Openheim (Disconnect).  The question being asked is, is  privacy possible today?

The web site for the event is : http://www.vlab.org/article.html?aid=480

Naturally, the panel will look at technologies like data mining (and anti-data mining) and encryption.  VLAB is interested in business opportunities for startups with disruptive technologies, the panel will be seeing what's possible.

VLAB usually looks for major disruptive trends, events, and technologies.  The Snowden leaks (and also the Google, Facebook, etc. reactions) may have started something significant, and sparked an awareness.  The silk-road takedown and what/how that occurred is also food for thought ...

In any case, it should be an interesting event. If you're in the area, you might want to check it out. (full disclosure - I'm the event chair for the privacy event).

Best Regards,
Tony

PS: I know privacy isn't bitcoin, but I figured the two topics are inter-related, so you might be interested.  I personally think of Bitcoin as a private form of money.
