Why not give $100 in BTC to every member of bitcointalk instead ?

'coz bitcoin members are mostly low-lifes and MIT students are the elite of society.

lol.  The funny thing is I bet the rate of people who already have a wallet and that start at MIT is far higher than likely just about any other school.  If some other school has a higher rate of adoption, it would be another well regarded technical college.

Sounds like an awesome way to test out the true usefulness of bitcoin as a currency.  If the "experiment" goes well it could be huge for BTC.

Do due diligence
its actually to get MIT students to learn and use bitcoin to construct new payroll apps, shopping carts, payment processors, exchanges, etc...

An excellent way to encourage development of applications to make it average user friendly

".. its not meant as a free giveaway to buy pizza and beer, although i can see thats where it will end up"

What on earth could be more motivating to college students than learning how to transact in bitcoin to get "pizza and beer"? ;-)

This is probably because we are already using Bitcoin, and they want to attract new users, that will also benefit us.
