I spoke with Mick (mjb) yesterday. Great guy who has been unappreciated for his contribution to the space. He’s still available for design work if anyone wanted to hire a legend to work on some designs for you (he did my binary rounds). I’m even sending him a free care package tomorrow as a thank you after being reminded of his work. I think Mick Bruce and Gavin Andresen (also Casascius but we had very little direct communication) were very inspirational for me in my coin making journey here.

I’ve also got a couple of the original brass ones and a 0.1 gram scale if that is at all helpful.
WOW, What a post. Tell MJB he's a legend and thanks for his contribution to Physical. His design is the face of BTC. Every time you see anything on TV or internet regarding BTC they use his designed coin next to it. If what you're telling me is he gets no royalties from the use of that design, that's a tragedy. I think most modern day collectors start by collecting the non hologram coins. Everyone's got an MJB in their collection. If he has lost control of that design. He should use MJB initials to make a new series. Those initials are well known and would bring in buyers. So thank you MJB. I hope your next design rattles the collecting world.

Here is the response from the ebay seller.

To the original poster of this thread Hayden. I would say that the ebay seller with the ANACS graded coins is the closest your going to get to getting an official coin. From everything I see these are original. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this thread. Everything we can do to validate physical bitcoin will strengthen this industry.

Just Clarify one of above pictures. The weight of coin is 61.3 grams in the holder. The decimal point didn't show up in the picture.

Right on, thanks. My cryptonic .999 copper in a yellow slab is 60.8g .. So yeah, close enough! Tongue

The guy on ebay been selling those ANACS graded 2012 coppers for years. He must have bought a bunch when they came out. Id say that's your best bet since there is no way to confirm otherwise. Those coins have no holograms or COA associated with it. That Michael Bruce design has been used over and over again so other than having it tested to be 100% copper no way to catch a fake. Having an ANACS graded is your best bet. I have one of these myself. But truly ANACS is just grading the condition not that its an original from 2012. Unless it was graded in 2013 or something like that.

The guy on ebays' coin's are graded in the past few years - if they were older than 2018-2019-ish, they would be jungle-green or yellow. The light green was the last colored label they used before stopping grading crypto coins.

I don't think I'd even trust anacs to grade it as copper - Does anyone remember the fake Sol Noctis they graded as ms69 that wasn't even silver? [link needed sorry] Huh
thanks for the ANACS info owl. Yeah theres really no way to be 100% certain that the MJB coin your getting is indeed one of the original 2012s thats in the encyclopedia. I did email with the ebay guy about these actual questions. He stated he bought them in 2012 but we all know how that goes. The coins do look good. I did buy one of the ms69 coins years back. I will say that this isnt a highly counterfeitied coin. If you were going to make fakes you'd think youd go for casacius.  But still its a gamble.

Yep, absolutely 100% - I'd be curious to know the weight of one in the slab. I have another ANACS 1 oz copper of a diff variety that I could compare against that I know for sure is copper lol. I would think you could tell as copper is a bit heavier than steel or brass..
The ebay seller has also sold like 290 according to ebay. If he had that many he would have had to of bought them in 2012. The MJB coin is still made today. JM Buliion sells a new coin every year. Heres some pics of the coin.

These would certainly be very hard to obtain and know that they are truly from MJBs original batch/design. Then comes this part, the guy (scammer) who’s operating the Cold Coins (and other defunct coins/businesses) stole the design from MJB shortly after the originals were made, so do those count? If I’m remembering correctly MJB apparently allowed him to make a few but not as many as he did and he never paid him for it. He’s still using the design he stole to this day. So perhaps the only true ones are the few MJB designed.

Does anyone have an of the MJB Monetery Metals AOCS coins for sale? I’m looking for 2 of the copper coins that were minted in 2012. I see some on eBay but want to ensure I don’t get a fake.

This is for my friend’s birthday on January 31st so time is of the essence Smiley

Thanks!
