I use Xilisoft. Never had problems using it to convert audio or video files. You can try that, or you can use online video converters instead. There are a couple out there where you can convert your files for free.

Try using an online converter, the conversion process will be faster and depend on internet speed as well.

You could search the top 10 video converters in google, I always use CNET converters.

I could but then I'd end up with a biased report usually as to who is the best (the highest website is usually the one that has earnt the most from affiliate commision or commision for advertising in articles).

Does anyone know of any fast converters from MKV to MP4 on Windows.
I would use cloudconvert but it's a few gigabytes so it's a bit too big.
I also tried VideoLAN but it seems to go through the video fram-by-frame at normal time so that's very slow.

I've been using Handbrake for couple of years now. You have presets for android, iPod, iPad, Apple TV etc.
And it's free.
The speed depends on your pc specs. You can't blame the software. Decoding and re-encoding takes time.
Thanks I've downloaded that. It predicted 2 hours which was a bit faster than VLC so I'll see how it goes...
