Its just the way of nature that there is strength in numbers. No amount of mob mentality or loyalty will ever trump good principled and moral virtues though. The lynch mob sometimes does get their way but history and more importantly the divine realm remembers them for what they are. The mob clearly throws out principles and virtue to get their way, this is why voting is not even close to people's most important civic duty. People have civic duty to participate directly in society, they cannot just cast a vote once a year and expect everything to be handed to them by "public servants" who in today's world serve them selves, not the voter.
As for loyalty I agree it does rule. Is a fair weather friend really a friend? I've written off many at the first sign of disloyalty. Our time is limited and our resources are limited, so they go to people who we can feel confident in. I think it ties into unconditional love. We can love someone even if they are not a good person, and we can love someone regardless of who they are associated with too.
Of course the idea of a mob actually isn't very loyal... any one of them can turn on each other at any time... its almost as if a mob is disloyal. The mob is often a product of manipulation and therefore it can be re-manipulated by their puppeteers.

Strenghts of countries comes from the people who are the nation of country the strongest are those who are most loyal and will keep mob gang mentality.
That's why USA russia and China are the biggest powers other nations don't have mob mentality and people are luck of the loyal mindset.
So loyalty first then success and safety.
If you are good person and you want to be loyal to your own people then your best countries are usa russia or china or atleast locations where those nations are some of them italy but not all.
But you are loyal and you never sell out your own people then you want to deal with usa russia and China that's why they are strong because power requires good loyal people and off course the vatican team.
