Deleting them would be significantly better than renaming titles to ridiculous ones

The correct approach would be to delete the entire thread. Spray 'em with Troll-B-Gone.

This might actually he a better approach

It's either this, or the renaming. To quell the anti-censorists(is that even a word??), I'd say the latter works better.
There's no pleasing everyone.

3. It's a micro form of public shaming for lack of knowledge / stupidity

I believe that stupid people need to be told so, otherwise they will continue to say stupid things embarrassing themselves and their kin.

More examples:

We were always at war with oceania (Ozzian BS cut from the Avalon tree)

WOW! Becoin failed to read and comprehend BFL's policy on BTC refunds

Edit: just came across more:

"... and please do not quote a part of a post of mine where you have edited that quoted text ... you have edited a few of my posts ..."

Crazyates' OT misguided whining from the avalon thread

Re: [topic topiary] Trolling thread topologically tossed from the terrane

This is looking more like a joke board now.

In the custom hardware form, one moderator has being forcibly changing the topic names to things like "In which xxx fails to understand yyy".

Few reasons why I'm against this:

1. It's confusing, especially when that mod edits without the edit showing up on the timestamp
2. It's putting words in other people's mouth
3. It's a micro form of public shaming for lack of knowledge / stupidity

Mod edits should clearly be marked as such, and they need to be objective (or reconsider people with mod powers that treats this forum as a playground).
