I shared a version, it was just for sharing. For sure, other people wanted to do the same. Obviously, you don't know what sharing mean. You can warn people to be careful, for sure. But try to find any virus in my old sharing, you will never find anything. Why people would use those soft ? Because compiling is easy for some people while other run away when they just see a command line. For those one, some people can just be sympathic and share their work.

Of course, be careful to what you download. You want to share something and you get accused to be a hacker or someone who is ill-intentionned. For sure many people won't share anything here anymore, because of people like you. You don't know anything about sharing.

In this story, YOU are the bad guy.

You do know that XMR-STAK is actually open source and anyone can compile it themselves without any dev fee? There are lots of guides online on how to do this yourself.

Most of miners discussed in this thread have quite simple compile instructions. You don't even need to dab in mingw/cygwin, and even don't need full visual studio to be installed, Build Tools for Visual Studio 2017 will suffice. Install dependencies (like cmake and others), compile needed dependencies (or grab compiled one). Then in just simple as pointing msbuild (default path is C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio\2017\BuildTools\MSBuild\15.0\Bin\MSBuild.exe) to sln (solution) file and you got your binary in build\bin\release.

If only there was an updated trusted source for no dev fee.... if only for stability's sake. I think when it switches pools its crashing my miner.

I would totally just give the dev a lump sum and turn off the fee if I knew how to compile code. Maybe it's time to learn?

Otherwise, when you launch xmr-stak.exe, it's written on the fifth line : "Configuration dev donation level is set to 0.0%"
You'll never see "Connecting to dev pool" each 100 minutes then "Switching to user pool"... Finish!

By the way, it's not really a "mod", I followed the instructions of the dev team ITSELF, downloaded their OWN files, modified their OWN file (replaced 2% by 0% as they wrote on their github https://github.com/fireice-uk/xmr-stak#default-developer-donation), then compiled everything following their OWN procedure (https://github.com/fireice-uk/xmr-stak/blob/master/doc/compile.md)... Don't know for the others, but i guarantee there is no risk with my share.

How can we know that this mod has no fees, and fees are not going to devs wallet?

I just compiled myself the last XMR-STAK version (2.3.0) with 0% dev donation for CPU and AMD GPU I just set donation to 0% in donate-level.hpp, nothing else.

Just download the last release from official github https://github.com/fireice-uk/xmr-stak/releases (The PoWs They Are a-Changin') and replace the xmr-stak.exe by this one :

Hello Is it only for AMD? I have nvidia is there something for that card with 0% fee?

I compiled my own and took out dev fee, devs had several months of my fees anyway - not difficult

It appears to me much faster and stable - I'm constantly averaging over 5k poolside over 24hrs on 2 vega and threadripper. I was always suspicious of poolswitching.

To me author seems trusty, because of public available info and family photos.. (of course that can be stolen identity, but i don't think so..)

If you think so, then probably need some test pool, where only one miner with MOD version are connected. And then need to monitor hashrate, and is there traceable additional wallet activity...

I compared this MOD on two independent systems. On both there was ~ 5.5% extra H/s, interesting.

Can you share the settings that you are using for the config?

I just did that, pasted 3files from modified version to the existing xmr-stak folder.

Previously my one of the Gigabyte VEGA 64 OC model was able to reach 1926H/s, but now with modified version it is: 2032H/s (not overclocked, but undervolted..)

I dont think, that it is just a number on the screen for the show..

This is first version of XMR-STAK that Eset blocks me for a long time... if there is source code upload it somewhere I will look at the changes. If there is no source code it's against GNU GPL so it's 100% scam.

No, they are not "forcing you". That's a voluntary choice you make and agree to by choosing their one-click binary download. It's not like they're the only XMR mining software in existence. You are free to support another project that provides binaries with no fees.

If you do the work to modify and compile, you are free to make whatever personal changes you would like - they even walk you through how to do it, which makes people's arguments even more ludicrous.

To the claims of the devs not actually doing any work: you only need to see the commit logs to see the amount of effort that has gone into this software. Hundreds of man-hours so that you can click a button and gain credit on a blockchain ledger.  Why do you not see value in giving them a modest amount of support and incentive to continue to invest into the software?

The latest DEV fee for XMR stak is 2%...  These guys are forcing you to mine for them for using their software.   Should be illegal but hey it's the land of the free.

No one writes anything from scratch. Its all copied over and over from existing GPL. 1300 Cryptos and there are 5 only ideas behind them. CGMiner may have been unique in its own way.

Xmr stak developers did not took a miner and modify it, they wrote it all from zero ground.
So they deserve the 1%.

While I hear your point, I think 1% of ALL MINING CAPACITY OF THE ENTIRE WORLD is wayyy too much for someone who took a miner and modified it for a new algo. The 1% is like owning 100 x 7GPU mining rigs or something like that. The miner fee is OK but should be a lower reasonable amount.  


In case of JUST XMR, the 1% Developer fee currently equates to over $110,000 PER WEEK with ZERO electricity cost. That is just ONE coin. No copy/modify/fork/paste  software developer deserves that much unless they are Satoshi himself.
