Be careful to get banned.  Google has cracked down on Crypto related sites, we have been banned and started using alternatives like coinzilla (see http://bloc10.com/shop/ )

Our site is www.totalcryptos.com  Google was great to promote our app at first, and admob too - but since the ban we've had to look for alternatives.  If you'd like some help setting up a campaign on some of these alt networks we can help.  www.bloc10.com

The first day we put no limit and they ate up our budget in 48hours it was really crazy.  But the support is good, and the big upside the traffic on the alt nets is 99% crypto!  So the traffic is more targeted.  We have some legacy SEO clients from before Blockchain they spend big bucks on Adwords and get sometimes very little.  So Adsense / Adwords can be tricky.

Just remember that Google built an empire out of it!  Good luck, let us know if we can help.

They're not the only ones, Facebook did it too: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/03/14/technology/google-bitcoin-advertising.html

It would be nice if they provided a reason as to why they are banning crypto-related sites, instead of just changing their policies and shrugging their shoulders.

It's hard to say exactly how much you will receive money for one click, very often the price changes and changes are dynamic. The volatility of the cryptocurrency market also plays an important role in this)

how much I can earn per click with AdSense?

Well if you want to find out the approx amount do the following. Find out where your most traffic is coming from(in your case that is Japan) afterwards goto google adword keyword planner. Select the countries where your most traffic is coming from and enter keywords you think advertisers will use to advertise on your website. Like if it's about crypto trading then search for keywords like Crypto trading courses/bots etc... Most likely these will be the Advertisers who will advertise on your website. See what kind of average bid is for the keywords, multiply that amount by 0.64% and you will have the approx per click amount for different keywords. But as other's have mentioned. Adsense has the best rates out there. Nobody can give you better rates than them. At least that's my opinion.

It is hard to calculate average earnings. Like I say, visitors, United States 3.44%, Germany 0.7% etc.. will give you much better CPR ratio.

If you are interested we can talk about AdSense, I have fully approved account and if your website completely legal with real native traffic, maybe we can make a deal (if you still do not have AdSense account).
Also if you want to try it, I can make banners from my account, and you can monitor statistic month or two. you will get your money if banners earn something.

So, what about visitors that using a VPN?  People from Senegal for example use the US IP, can AdSense detect that kind of visitor?

It depends on the quality of VPNs. In general, free VPNs which people would normally use to get access to sites would of course be blocked or considered low value traffic by AdSense - even Bitcoin-accepting advertising services like Mellow and others will track these as low value or VPN - in my very brief experience even in 2016 (although, unfairly, VPN traffic still eats up Mellow packages).

People used to game the systems with paid VPNs, and I'm curious to see some blockchain marketplaces for VPNs come up, the first users I can predict will be those gaming VPNs for ad traffic.

Considering to make money via Google Adsense is a very good idea. However, i do not think the amount of money you are going to make per a click is fixed- it would depend on a lot of factors other than your number of followers. Make Adsense a source of income for yourself. Good luck.

I started a cryptocurrency related website some time ago and it has become quite popular. Now I want to use the income the site generates to fund further development (new features and optimization). My content targets traders and about 50% of the traffic comes from mobile devices. Most of the traffic comes from Japan. I will not mention what the website is here :-)

Today I'm monetizing with a bitcoin advertising network, but I'm thinking I can do better with something like AdSense. I'm interested to hear if anyone here can give me a rough idea about how much I can earn per click with AdSense? Also I'm interested to hear if anyone can recommend other advertising networks... especially networks that work well for mobile sites and Japanese users?

AdSense is the best advertising network. They have no right competition.
They have a different rate depends on your visitors, or from where it coming. Countries, where people use a credit card and online payments, are better ranked and you will get better CPR ratio from this visitors. For example, one visitor from Australia will get you more than 3000 visits from Ukraine.
I am not sure how is Japan ranked there.
Big things here is what is default language of your website. English always has best results. If your website on the Japanese language, you are limited only to local targeted visitors.

That is good to know. My site is in English. Here is a top 10 of visitors by country:
1. Japan 79.51%
2. United States 3.44%
3. Russia 3.28%
4. Vietnam 1.18%
5. Ukraine 1.17%
6. United Kingdom 0.85%
7. China 0.71%
8. Germany 0.70%
9. Netherlands 0.70%
10. Poland 0.66%

I also have some affiliate links that I'm tracking with Google Analytics (just event tracking). In june I've had 1050 clicks on those (740 unique). Here is my affiliate clicks by country for june:
Japan 612
United States 68
Vietnam 59
China 48
Russia 43
Ukraine 20
Taiwan 16
South Korea 15
United Kingdom 14
Germany 12

Do you have a calculation of AdSense earnings pr. 1000 views or average earning pr. click?
You have a huge views and what you do need is google AdSense account in other for you to earn more income. Meanwhile, what you need is a gmail account, register google adsense account through their support and make sure your phone number and mailing address you use to register are the same with your bank account so you can get paid. You can list your website on Buysellads and sell ad space, instead of having CPC ads.
Buysellads allow cryptocurrency related websites, but you need to have big amounts of traffic.
Adsense just won`t work with a crypto website, because there aren`t any crypto advertisers, who buy that type of PPC traffic.

Does adsense pay to bitcoin related websites? As dar as I know, no... But amn't 100 sure...
If they pay, then CPC won't be low for you because japanese traffic is valuable compared to others, they pay much especially in USA traffic. CPC depends on website's content too, for example some keywords have high cpc and some - low. You can find CPC of your keywords on google planner.
Personally I can't recommend any other, there is nothing similar of adsense.

I think they do pay bitcoin related websites (I see many Google ads on various websites).

Thanks for the hint about Google Planner, I will definitely take a look at it. I think AdSense will be my primary network, but depending on the ad formats I might consider at network that specialises in mobile ads. I think I will just have to try things out and see how they perform Smiley Currently I'm paid per impression (about 2 USD CPM), and I think AdSense will be better.
Adsense ads are ok for smartphones, google is the company which suports as much devices as possible, both modern and old so their ads formats in sizes and etx will be ok for you. But since you have traffic from mobile devices, I think it's better for you to use advertisement companies which pay in application installs, usually they are 2-5$ per install as far as I know.

Adsense would indeed be your best bet, I don't think that any of the crypto advertising networks are currently worth it.
They just don't offer the same rates as Adsense does. Difficult to say how much you would earn though, it all depends on your CPM.

Is your website already accepted by Adsense or do you need to apply still?

It might be worth looking into getting some custom advertising deals, you can reach out to crypto related services and make them an offer?
