agree, localbitcoins is the best way to go. While the fees are higher usually you do not need to worry about your identity and keep your money separate.

Just go to the marketplace here you can find traders accepting paypal. Just be careful using escrow or trade only with trusted members.

Definately Bitstamp, if you happen to be European.

It would be best for the bitcoin-ecosystem to NOT use MtGox since they're the main single point of failure right now.

Go with a validated MtGox account. Start the process as son as possible, for my validation it took almost two weeks. You need to send them a scan of your ID and a proof of residence (e.g. a gas bill).

I would say it's easiest to validate your account on MtGox. Then you can do direct wire transfers and 0%. (Just the wire fees you may need to pay).

That can depend on where your from, most people use https://mtgox.com/

If your wanting to buy locally, you can try https://localbitcoins.com/

There are others, just search this forum for 'exchanges'

Hi all - been lurking for awhile and time to pad my post count.

Been watching from the sidelines for some time and intrigue has finally pushed me into the realm of bitcoin!  Alas, my 660ti doesn't hash very well.  So I've been doing some reading about the new mining hardware, imminent increased difficulty, etc.  I'm thinking I'm going to ease in with just a few btc in a wallet first, then do some reading on mining hardware.

What are you all finding is the most convenient or least expensive way to buy btc?

Most difficult issue is to getting the regular currency into BTC ecosystem. If you are in US, you still have options like bitinstant.
again it depends where u are from..!! Local meetups are one more option as well.
