This simply means there is no way the world can be divided into two or three equal parts without finding that people gambles regularly and almost everyone is involved one way or the other, from my research on gambling it has been existing right from Origin of man.

I don't think this is true, because at least in my family there are a lot of people who like sports and are not gambling at all. First of all there is a big difference between males and females being interested in gambling. From all the female friends I have and also wifes of my friends I know that there are only 1-2 woman who are really into gambling and like to bet, all the others would not use their money for gambling. Maybe in different countries there is a stronger mentality for woman to enjoy gambling, but also in the casino in my home town the male to female ratio is like at least 1 to 6, maybe even 1 to 10. And among my male friends there are some who don't like gambling at all, I think that around 60-75% of my friends enjoy gambling. That is why I would expect that maybe 30-40% of all adults are involved in gambling in some form. You also need to take into account that in some countries gambling is banned by the government which will lead only a few people doing it illegally.

Another interesting statistic is this one:

Quote
3. 0.7% of Those Surveyed Are Considered Problem Gamblers.

What are problem gamblers? They are people who have the highest potential for loss of control when gambling by continuing to play regardless of the consequences.

This same group of online and offline gambling statistics shows that 1.1% of the respondents were categorized as moderate risk for losing control. The lowest risk group came in at 2.4%.
Problem gamblers correspond to a very small percentage of the total number. It goes heavily against the most common excuse used by authorities to forbid gambling activity.
Because most of gamblers wouldn't admit if they're addicted, this is the reason why the number of surveyed for gambling problems are low. If you're work or have a friend who work as a doctor, you will only find 1-2 people for few months who have gambling problem, because most of patient are illness, serious disease or mental health, not gambling problem.

Not to mention they might not being honest if they're have a gambling problem even someone busted them for gambling higher than their monthly wage.

It doesn't matter whether 100% of the populations lures into gambling since on your research it even started from the origin of man and I think it refers to how people are taking risks ever since.

I agree with title but not with the content of it. Every move one makes while living is gambling in my opinion. When you cross road there is chance of accident, when you plant crops there is chance of not raining, when you get operation for disease there is chance it may not be successful, etc.
These aren't gambling. These are the possible consequences of the decisions you make or risks you take. If there's anything that we have to worry about, it's the kind of gambling where people bet money to the extent that they can no longer control their habits of betting and no longer have discipline in their lives.

It depends on the definition of gambling, actually.
We can easily identify if someone gambles if they like rolling dices, play black jack, etc.

We can also include those how play video games and like to pay some money for loot-boxes, and see if they get valuable objects and skins.

But if we continue and try to stretch the definition of gambling, we may encounter that the line gets blurry at some point.

Do people who buy packages of collectible cards gamble?
Is acquiring a health insurance gambling?

It would better to check scientific studies to see if their definition equals ours.

And this is the reason why many gambling companies or sites are become successful, because there's a lot gamblers out there. I'd consider gacha in online game is gambling, nowadays most of popular games always have gacha in order to get the limited skin, item, skill etc. It's not surprising when someone is really want to get the limited skin, he will keep spend his money to get it even though he's use his money that will be used to buy foods.
Even MMORPG games have gacha nowadays for example Genshin Impact and Tower of Fantasy. Though they offer free spins, there are still people who love to spend some amount of money to get those exclusive items or some perks and benefits such as VIP.

Ever since I was a kid I really loved playing MMORPG's and I've spend some amount too with some of them, but I have realized too that it isn't really beneficial to me aside from it'll give me entertainment. Aside from having fun there is nothing much to gain, it makes me remember the saying " we are drawn to exclusivity" and paying to get those benefits only proves that.

Allow me to put in context how big the gambling market is. The Business Research Company reports that The global gambling market grew from $449.04 billion in 2022 to $702.45 billion in 2023 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 56.4%. The research further predicted that the gambling market is expected to grow to $765.89 billion in 2027 at a CAGR of 2.2%. I cannot emphasize and re-emphasize how stupendously massive the gambling is.

In every ten person I know, at least 5 of person participates in some sort of gambling activity. This my estimation, cuts across gender. So, although it is generally believed that men bet more but I think on a personal level that this line is beginning to blur. Also, when we talk about marital status, although, I want to believe that people who are single gamble more, I think speaking to my friends, I discover that out of every 5 married friends, at least 3 participate in some sort of gambling online. This is my personal observation. It may be different from others.

True or not, we can just easily create our own view about it.

Since gambling almost covered the entire industry, the expected activity should be reached by most parts of the world. Politics, sports, and almost everything are now involved in gambling. What else gambling didn't cover? Make sense.

And if you we are going to look at it though, everything is life is a gamble, because we really don't know what will be the outcome of our decisions that  can really affect us for good or bad. And now with the advent of technologies, gambling are now more accessible, again, perhaps this is due to the pandemic that most of us are at home and nothing to do, and for those who are really into gambling, then yeah, play in our phone and laptop and continue with it. And to some extend every sports that we love, football, soccer and basketball, sports that we love and so we beat on the outcome of it. Just shows that gambling is really universal and we all know that it will be part of human history, no matter what we say or the bad effects it can bring to the society.
That's the reality of life. We're taking risks to achieve something. Sometime things favour us and we succeed and sometimes things were in the opposite way. As said life itself a gamble. Whether we succeed or fail depends on how we move forward with statistics as well as the luck that favour us.

Gambling in recent years have grown big than tha past. Gambling existed long ago, but the growth and the spread hadn't happened high as now. Earlier there is not much of awareness. Nowadays everything is happening in a well processed way and people aren't that greed. The newcomers have the greed and misunderstanding of winning big out of gambling. Slowly this too have changed as people know the risks and started to participate.

Risk and gambling is a natural phenomena, its arguable excluding the idea of money on the bet that almost everyone is involved in various gambles they take every day in their lives.  Thats why its such an applicable activity to take part in because we already do it everyday either physically or life decisions that must be taken.  Everything in life could be weighed up as various weighted probabilities, certainty is a myth imo.

I think this is true since in my country, I often see people gamble through different ways. I think this widespread of people engaged in gambling is mostly due to their want to earn more so they are willing to gamble their money to get more. I can consider it popular in my country since we can see it to be embedded in our culture since it is often portrayed in movies and series, so most people have idea about it. So, it is no doubt that most of the population would be involved in gambling since even in the smallest event, gambling activity can be seen like when there are friend gathering where they often play card games that involved minimal amount of money.

OP, gambling is a huge business all over the world, and there are thousands of casinos, but I believe the United States has the most, followed by Romania. Gambling did not start today. It has existed since 3000 BCE, and even today, there are new casinos opening almost every year because people love games and gambling will always be the next thing they want to do. If all of the casino owners had realized that there was no profit in the business, they would have closed down a lot of casinos, but it's a big business with profit.

The funny thing is, most people gamble without gambling as well. Like the reality is that some people ended up buying some type of meme token or shitcoin and lost a ton of money all because there is a chance that we could consider that as much of a gambling as ee can. I hope that we should be calling that trading for sure but that doesnt mean that we will, because if you have no idea and still trade then that means that we shouldnt really be considering the situation as gambling. All those people added on gamblers will be a huge population for sure

I don't doubt this.

Even in my workplace alone, I'm surprised that a lot of employees are now talking about this local slots game that some of them won hundreds of dollars from. Even those people whom you wouldn't really think that gambles is playing the game, and is winning a lot from it. It caught like wildfire, and almost everyone is playing this whenever they have extra money or extra time. Even on small localities and communities, this online slots game is exceptionally popular. Idk how they knew about it but people are enjoying playing it.

So yeah, I think it's possible that a huge number of the world's population is into gambling—or at least exposed to it.

it is no doubt that a lot of human population is into gambling one way or another as it has been like innate to humanity. the form of gambling evolves thru time and now, we are seeing them going digital, which is more accessible to all people from all walks of life.
i believe, most have encountered gambling at one point in their lives. some continue their involvement, whereas, some may have occasional interaction. but there will always be some who will hate gambling for so many reasons.

This change had happened through the smartphone. In the past to spend on gambling it is a big process. Now its not like that, you just wanna have the smartphone and the gambling platforms provide you with cent percent privacy. You can gamble from any location. One thing good with your colleagues, everyone are playing when they've got some money extra as well as at their free time. Same as its easy reach, it had also got more negative effects as people come with big expectations and the losses can't be accepted.

There must be definite data so we can say most people, that can be done through a survey but if the survey is conducted only in certain countries then it still cannot describe that most people gamble because the culture of a region can affect whether people gamble or not. However, saying that sports make people gamble is not entirely true because many sports lovers stick to the love of watching and not betting. So everyone has to go through a study with an even sample in each country so that we can say most people gamble
It’s a fact that gambling has now become very known to all parts of the world, but I cannot agree that most of the world’s population have been gambling. The fact that some religions and certain traditions are against to it, then these people involved in such religion or tradition are definitely not allowed to gamble. And while most of us love sports and entertainment, it does not mean that we all gamble for that. Some are just being entertained with sports gambling, but not a lot of people involve themselves in gambling.

By the word most, it does not mean all but the majority which I think and believe is true.  In our life each one of us may be involved in gambling in one way or another.  Many of those who said they don't gamble might not know or remember that in their history, they probably made a bet or something like that. So gambling even once made us involved in gambling and that is a fact.  So yeah I agree that most people are involved in gambling.

I believe that most of the world's population is very familiar with gambling, but that does not mean that half of the world's population is actively involved in gambling. how can that happen, because, in other parts of the world gambling is something that is illegal. Also, it doesn't mean someone who knows gambling that they are a gambler. however, if you change the title of this thread to "most likely half of the world's population has ever gambled even if it's only occasionally" those things would still make sense to me.

However, if what you wrote in the title of this thread were to come close to reality, I'm sure there would be plenty of research journals on the effects of gambling on the world's population. at the very least, we'll have corroborating data and statistical evidence for the title in this thread. but since it doesn't describe the truth, then I will say that this is just your personal assumption.

Not sure how many gambling companies to succeed, but the gambling industry will always survive for a long time because of this reason. As long as many people are involved in gambling, the gambling industry will keep developing. We realize that the demand for gambling games is increasing due to people's lifestyles. Gambling becomes a necessary part of people's daily life because it offers entertainment and the chance for earning money as well. Our life is getting more stressful and we always need more money, offers the opportunity to get those things. So, that's why the demand for gambling is always raising nowadays. However, not every gambling company will be successful, be careful to choose a proper place for gambling.

We are in a gambling world. I people go as far as betting on other world events other than sports. People bet on the outcome of elections, the winner of awards, which actor will live or die in a movie and all sorts of things. Gambling is moving onto another scale and with the advent of the computer and internet, there is no sign that entrepreneurs wouldn't want a slice of this pie. Of course who wouldn't when it is like a faucet that generates tons of cash. More and more people are getting into gambling. My only concern is that we do not have as much agencies to tackle the outbreak of addiction problem that the world is about to witness.

Gambling is a multi-billion dollar industry, this does prove to us that a lot of people in the world are involved in gambling, gambling are of different kinds and forms, there are some type of games we can find in one country but wouldn't find the same game in another country, this goes to show us how peculiar gambling could be
.
Sports is an activity that have united the world, not gambling in itself, since gambling does not end in sports betting, infact, I believe that sports betting only began recently, there are several forms and types of gambling that have been in existence even before sports betting came into the picture, though today, it has become one of the most popular form of gambling.

It would have been nice for you to publish the references to your research, Gambling did not exist from the origin of man. Man started off as wanderers and gatherers, games which you say gave way to gambling have not always been in existence but must have started at some point early in history, but not at the beginning.

I agree that gambling activity has spread, and it is difficult to not see someone who gambles out of a group of persons. This is a result of massive ads runs by gambling houses and casino's, peer pressure and societal influence. There are a number of games that people can bet and gamble on, these games appeal to different individuals and since there is now a gambling/betting option for those games, you will have more gamblers.

statistically and mathematically it is much easier to win money (indeed the correct term would be to earn) if you are a casino/bookmaker and not a bettor. it's just a mathematical question. easy and peasy.
the fact that there are so many users, makes some of these companies really rich and profitable.
It is true that in the world of gambling, those who can get wins and profits in such large numbers are casino business owners and the entire management team of the casino itself.
We, who are only gamblers, will only lose and lose the money we have. Maybe we can get occasional wins, but that victory is only the beginning of ruin for a gambler.
Many gamblers out there have the assumption that they can get rich from gambling but the fact is that their wealth is actually used up by gambling.
Gambling itself is an activity that is already worldwide or it can be said that every country always has a lot of gamblers and this has been around for a long time and has even become an activity that has been hereditary until now.
So that those who have a fairly large and well-established gambling business will get richer day by day because there are many gamblers spread across various countries.

100% agree with the assertion. It is just the logical conclusion. Gambling sites display their adverts in sports stadium, on the jerseys of several football clubs, they have super starts as brand ambassadors. Their adverts come up before during (half-time) and after the sports game. They unconsciously programme the minds of sports lovers to see gambling as normal. So, it is only logical that there people would gamble including kids. Mind you, gambling is big business and the sports fans which are in every corner of the world are the market. And it is a market that is rapidly expanding.

I think you are talking about two different concepts here, I believe that most people have gambled at least once during their lives, even on the cultures in which this is forbidden, however there is a huge difference between gambling once and gambling regularly, the number of regular gamblers will never be as high as this number as people may find other activities to be way more entertaining, but at the same time it cannot be denied that thanks to the pandemic the popularity of gambling rose to very high levels.

Your statical could be right or wrong but what I understand mostly is our daily activities which is being filled with gambling, how?
Okay, let say gambling is a game of probability, and what is the probability of one winning a match
or a game is either 1 or 0. So as for that reason I said our daily activities are of gambling, whenever you woke up from sleep in the morning, you think of how your day would go on that very day and if you achieved all the plans it means you have won for that very day, and if you couldn't achieve any you noticed your day was bored because you failed on your prediction. So this was the reason why I said man himself gambles every single day.

That's true to an extent and we can believe on this base on the fact that if tiu are to approach 10 people now and ask them if they have interest for sports, about seven of them will show you positive response which equally means that we can have this same distribution across the world but we have to be more concerned that this only exist among the youths, children and adults canbbe excluded because they don't know what they actually want at a particular time they were either too young or too old for having interest in games or gambling.

Thanks for some actual statistics.

There is a huge difference between "people who gamble" and "people who have gambled". When the Super Bowl comes around, I have dozens of friends and colleagues who never usually gamble throwing a few bets on. When the football/soccer World Cup comes around, almost everyone I know has a sweepstake or similar being organized in their place of work or in their friend groups, usually with a buy in of somewhere around $5-20. All of this counts as gambling and puts all these people in the category of people who have gambled, although almost none of them are regular gamblers who bet daily or weekly.

It doesn't surprise me that the statistics show that the vast majority of people in the US have gambled at some point, while <1% are considered problem gamblers.

Anyone who have gambled in any way or the other can as well be classified into population of the world since they have anticipated in gambling activities and I think was already recorded across the globe. Does this usually mean gambling is for everyone just as @uneng did said on his post, partially we have been involved in gambling. And from my understanding gambling doesn't really focused on sports and gaming.
Gambling can as well take place between two persons or more in way of trying to prove some certain event or an occurrences whomever that got it right can be liken to be the winner in which gambling exercise have been carried out.

No doubt that gambling has been a part of human activities seen the early stages of our race and now it has evolved so greatly that even the little children in my place actually look for whatever means to stake their money on some kind of gambling act. I don't know about the figures presented but I know one thing for  sure and that is, the spread of gambling everywhere and the way money is actually made through the public by business men actually venturing into the sports world. Online casino and sport books are just the trend now in this modern age as quick money is made from  the owners of this platform.

Most likely fans are going to bet when they know thier sports hero is playing. When a news channel flashes that Ryan Gacria and Tank Davis are set to fight in the next few weeks, boxing fans even women are up to bet for their favorite fighter.

They don't regularly gamble but if they are in the statistics among the 30% of 70%. The numbers must be wrong, not all people are up to keep the gambling activity even if they win whenever they gamble.

I think your point about gacha events in some online games is like gambling? I agree since the probability of getting a rare item is low it can even reach to a 1%. The good side of having this kind of rare item is that the account can be worth a lot and valuable since it contains a limited item. From my experience, I got an item which is bundle in a store because I think that item would look cool. But it got removed in the store in a few weeks and then you can't even see it appear again on your shop and it already count as an exclusive item. So whenever I use them online people would like to borrow my item since they haven't see it for like months in their shop. However, due to needs of money I decided to sell my account since it have a rare item. People would really like to buy it with the price I want and willing to add more just to have the account that containing a rare item. The sad part is maybe in a next few years it can even value more but I got no choice.

Sports creates ways for gambling
Gaming gives raise to gambling
I reckon it's because those two are the easiest methods to create a gambling scenario? Gaming has gachas in it as the most striking example (that some people refuse to acknowledge that it's gambling, which actually is). And sports is well, the easiest imo since the most basic form of gambling in it is a 50/50 case scenario where one team wins and the other loses. Heck, outside of those things people still often gamble with decision-making, especially in simple yes/no types of decisions.

If it was solely based on gambling houses/ sports books, I can't really say that "most" would be a correct term, I reckon there's still a larger amount of people who don't actually gamble instead, or at least, don't gamble regularly.

I have not met until now a person who is not a sports fan or never played any kind of sport, have you? I think it should be 100% whether it is an outdoor or indoor sport and anything that trains and involves your mind and body and the goal is to win is considered a sport

These two are inseparable and it makes sports exciting if there is a bet or rewards when you accomplish your desired goal

Whether your government allows it or not we know how to gamble in any form because it is embedded in our consciousness the will to win and survive involves gambling and its been on us since our earliest existence.

There's no accurate percentage for this, but I'm sure in every country there's a gambler even if its not allowed in their country they can still find a way to gamble and sometimes its not just about the traditional gambling, they can gamble in any way as long as there's a money involve. Right now, the market for gambling is still growing, in my country alone many investors are planning to create another city just for the purpose of gambling island, this can attract many players and attract jobs as well. At least I can say that 30% of our population are into gambling, they are just in denial of this.

I would not say that most of the population of the world is involved in gambling. Maybe only 30 percent of the people in the whole world gamble. but still this number is enormous and there are too few casinos as compared to the people willing to gamble.

Why gambling casino business is popular because the ROI in the gambling casino is more than any other business. We know most of the time the gambler loses money, but now the question is where does this money go? Well, it is obvious that all the money which the gamblers lose, it goes to the casino owner.

Maybe this is right and wrong because, with today's technological developments, where there are already many online casinos, this could affect the results. Apart from that, now with the convenience of using the internet, gambling which used to be often played by adults, has gained many new members of the young generations who are curious about gambling.

Also, humans are truly creative creatures because they can use anything to gamble and it's not limited to one thing but we can use anything to gamble. This has made gambling able to develop so far because, supported by internet technology, it can make many people start playing gambling.

Where did you get these numbers from? From what I can see, the link you posted just explains the general history of gambling and its forms, it doesn't include how involved the population in general is. I also agree that gacha is also a form of gambling to some extent but even if that is true, I doubt many gamers play them or spend money on them. Most people are F2P, or just buy the monthly pack that doesn't include any form of gambling.

Let's say your number is correct, 30% out of 70% of people love sports like gaming, but that doesn't sound like "most" to me.  If anything, I'd say it is bigger than I think it would be, but the average joe doesn't participate in it. A million people are still way less than 1 billion people at the end of the day.
I was also curious to check if majority of world's population really gamble, and that is what I found:

Quote
18. Worldwide Gambling Statistics Show that 26% of The Entire World Gambles.

When you put that 26% into numbers, that’s 1.6 billion people. Furthermore, 4.2 billion people across the globe gamble at least once per year.
GAMBLING STATISTICS 2023: HOW MANY PEOPLE GAMBLE?

It means most people in the world have already gambled at least once in their lives. That is a clear signal it's impossible to avoid or forbid this activity, despite several governments' attempts, because it's already part of human's behavior and personality to predict future events and try the luck for material gains or just for recognization as a smart, intelligent person who is able to see ahead than everyone else around.

Based on the data from EarthWeb Gambling Statistics 2023, 26% of the world’s population has gambled and 85% of Americans have gambled at least once. Gambling is as old as man which means it is part of man. Regardless of government restrictions or unfavorable religious beliefs people still devise diverse means of gambling.

Poverty and unemployment has also led to the increase in gambling in my location. People now see gambling as a means of getting extra income, while other see it as full time job. I am sure the Middle East might have lesser gamblers compared to other part of the world because of their religious belief. While Western nation or those aligned to them will have more gamblers because of favourable policies. COVID-19 led to a massive increase of online gambling firms and this has made gambling more accessible. This has also contributed to the constant increase in the rate of gamblers.

Yes ofcourse, no doubt about that. Every country would be having many people who would be gambling regularly.
Countries allowing gambling and taxing it is another reason why people are not hesitating to gamble.
After all, we know how addictive gambling can be. One just needs to play a game few times and boom, he turns out to be a gambler in few weeks.

Majority of the world population would have ventured into gambling businesses and participate in gaming if the Government and Religious leaders didn't frown against it. Hence, the number is enormous as its existence can be traced back to 3000BCE according to the link OP provided. So, it's among the oldest business in the world, with the idealism that things grow as they progress; gambling is meant to be as famous as it is today. Given more years, additional amount of world population will join the online casino gambling. Because it reduces the stress of having to travel around or sleeping in hotels for the purpose of playing casino. Notwithstanding, the recreational benefits of gambling helps us to relax, yet a good amount of world population will never practice gambling, for reasons like; addiction, fraud, deceits and fixed results. These reasons contributed to gambling opposition by most religious leaders. Only a few, hardworking citizens, would love to risk their money in gambling, so, while sports thrives, gambling won't take up a large percentage of people who love watching sports.

Just go and check the Stake website chat, usually in weekends you will see over 80k people online up to over 100k which is a great number for a single site offering gambling and this paired with what you said it might be true.We all know that most of the world population love to gamble as most of the world population is poor and want to be rich quickly overnight and thus they find gambling as the fastest way to do so.The result is a lot of people become addicted but there is a great geolocation indicator and that is gambling is played much more in poor countries than in rich ones for example you have much more gamblers in the Balkan than you have in Nordic countries.

Gamble responsibly
What I have noticed is that most women are not gambling. Maybe in my country, I have been to many parts of my country, most women are not gambling.

Among we men, people that are not gambling are less than the people that are gambling, although many men are gambling, but those that do not gamble are many too, or slightly difference. I do not know of other regions.

Even if some under 18 years are gambling, most children are not gambling. I do not expect children under 12 years to be gambling. Children make up the most population in Africa, although life expectancy in developed continents like America and Europe is higher.

Many people are not gambling, but I do not have any statistical evidence for it, I may be wrong. It is just about how I see it from people gambling around me which are many but not more than those that are not gambling.

Even let us say men that are gambling to be 60% to 40% to those that are not gambling.
Women that are not gambling are more
Children are not gambling
People gambling in gambling restricted countries (like Muslim countries) are also less.
