Worked perfectly.

(1) Export wallet & Private Keys (already had a copy of my seed)

(2) Import wallet into Electrum on new machine; bitcoins are "there".

Thanks

Good to know and if you plan to do the same thing in the future you don't have to do anything but with the same process again.

Congratulations you have successfully exported it, achievement unlocked!  Grin And just keep your private keys again just an addition tip don't give it to anyone.

Also avoid doing it with a public computer because there are some of the complains here that got problem of exporting their wallet to a computer that is affected by a malware.

Okay, thanks that's what I did (and I also have a paper copy of the seed).

So, once I wipe/destroy the old laptop HDD the sole (single) location will be the new laptop?

Thanks

As long as you hold the private keys or seed of your wallet you can just export it wherever you are. You are afraid that you might see your bitcoins when you want to export it to the other laptop/computer?

After installing electrum, there's an option that you might see of restoring your wallet and you just have to put your seeds there.

Update us here if the exporting is a success, if you still can't get it there are youtube video tutorials that can help you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8Id3adVX78

My instructions maybe wrong for older versions. For example IDK where in the gui certain options are. You haven't specified the version either which is a mistake.

First of all grab the seed from wallet menu > seed. It's also accessible via the seed icon in the bottom right of the window. Write the seed down on paper.

Then see if the save copy option is there in the file menu. Use that to save a copy of your wallet file.

If the save copy option is not there find and backup your wallet file:

http://docs.electrum.org/en/latest/faq.html#where-is-my-wallet-file-located

Then on the new computer install electrum and open your wallet file :

https://bitcoinelectrum.com/frequently-asked-questions/#how-do-i-open-a-different-wallet

If you need to do a restore from seed then here are instructions for that:

https://bitcoinelectrum.com/restoring-your-standard-wallet-from-seed/

Note that your labels will not be preserved if you do a restore from seed. If you want your labels to preserved enable the label sync plugin on the laptop first:

https://bitcoinelectrum.com/how-to-use-the-electrum-label-sync-plugin/

Your labels are preserved if you use the wallet file backup.

Hello,

I'm new to bitcoins and haven't quite figured out everything, so apologies if this has been asked and answered before.

I have Electrum on an older laptop.  I would like to export my wallet, and my private keys and transfer my wallet to my NEW laptop with the current version of Electrum (2.93).

Would the process be as simple as exporting my wallet and private keys on the old machine and then loading/installing them on the new laptop?

Thanks
