I think that these are 2 topics. Adding to trading forum because this is why I use 2FA.

I want to get myself a new phone (android if that's applicable) and I currently use Google Authenticator for my 2FA needs. Is there a way to migrate all the codes/keys to the new phone or is it better to back up the codes/keys with another app instead?

The situation that I am trying to avoid is needing to use my old phone solely for 2FA.

Most sites that offer 2FA protection also allow you to see the 2FA seed when you enable/set the 2FA.
I think that it's a good idea to also keep safe that seed.

So my advice is, especially if there are not too many 2FA sites you use, to disable 2FA and re-enable it on them, save that seed somewhere safe.
Of course, this means that the 2FA on the old phone may not work anymore, you have to add it again to Google Authenticator. If you have the new phone, you can add it directly there.

From what I know Google Authenticator has no means to backup/migrate and I didn't use any "easy migration" tools for the 2FA since I don't feel they are so safe...
