I just bought my 2nd Sapphire 6990 from a local parts shop. I paid $709 CAD, This rig is set for gaming & mining + it will still have re-sale value in a year, if I choose to sell.
I read the single review for the 5970 on Newegg and it had the same sentiment, so I think it might not be such a great card after all.
The resale value definitely makes a lot of sense. How many of us are buying to resell, though? I would think that most everybody here is buying a 6990 for the purpose of mining.

I gotta ask, what's the point of buying one of these for $729 when Newegg has the 5970 card listed at $499? They both top out right about the same place in terms of hash rate. Is the 6990 less of a power draw? Still, the $230 difference in price is pretty significant.

Newegg is oos on 5970's. The resale for a 6990 is better you can expect at least 800-850 if you sell in this forums marketplace. This has a warranty and I believe they are more reliable. The 5970 has limited resale value compared to the 6990 because outside of bitcoin mining people aren't looking for them for gaming. The 5970 from Newegg is also OEM with 30 days warranty.
