GPU mining is profitable if you pay very little for electricity or get it included for rent.  You basically want to try and get 3Mhash/$ or 4 Megahash/$.   2.5 Megahash/$ is lowest I would go.

I GPU mine for $0.0/kwh  and $0.08 to $0.12kw/h  depending on peaks.   Naturally I GPU mine the most where electricity is free...so this covers my water, trash, natural gas, electric bill, hardware costs, and some of the rent for the location I live at.

If you GPU mine, plan for a ROI in 3-9 months...depending on market and what you buy for the price.

This is probably one of the best hash/$ deals out there, at 2.54.  The cheapest 7950, assuming a 630 hash rate, is 2.1.
Every PCIe slot has a cost, 7850s are the lowest card I could argue for getting since you can stick 6 of them in a rig without having to either undervolt your cards or get 1500W for 6x7950s.

Anyway, if what you say is true, then pretty much any GPU mining will be unprofitable at this point (at least for bitcoin).

It is true already, unless price goes up (should have bought BTC in that case instead) or no more asics comes online (hah)

Even if you need to mine just 1 coin to break even, it barely scrapes above ROI before it becomes unprofitable.

Not sure if this has been posted or not but there is a current promotion for these cards:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127726

Normally these are $150 MSRP, but there is a 10% off plus a $25 MIR for a total of $109.99.  I have 2 7790's, they get about 280 each mining bitcoin, core at 1200 and mem at 150.  They are quiet and even with that OC the fan doesn't get above 50% keeping the cards at 75 degrees.
