Guys this is a sale thread. Not a discussion about the board. Let's stay focused.

Maybe this help

Remove all cards and attach your monitor to the onboard graphics and boot into BIOS. In system settings > advanced, you will find a PCIe option which allows you to downgrade the PCI-e 3.0 16x slots to 2.0 or even 1.0 (instead of the usual AUTO option). Each slot is independently adjustable and they are labelled as PEG1/2/3. By selecting 2.0 on the slots which have risers on you can now save, shutdown and reinstall your cards.... Attach your monitor to the top card as usual and voila your cards will be detected and function correctly

this is correct, but IME doesnt always work/ provide video output.

but i have similar issues with my H97, where some gpu configurations cant seem to provide an output from any card/onboard, yet boots up fine. Teamviewer can work wonders for such rigs though if all else fails

Were you able to run 7 GPU's on these?
Using powered risers and Linux, they should work fine. Note that I have not used these boards. I bought them with the idea of running 7 RX 470's or 480's.

I have the Asrock H81 and H97 boards and have run 4 cards on MSI GA Z97 4 slot. I might build a rig with one...its tempting.

I would not try to run 7 cards on Windows.

I have these.  No issues running 7 x RX480 on them.  You just need to edit in the BIOS to make all first three PCI-E section to Gen 1 and for the speed of the 3 x 16X slots to 8/4/4 instead of factory default for the Motherboard to be able to see all 7 slot at 1x for use with your Power Risers.

Thanks for your input.

i have the z97-g45, wich i presume is pretty much identical. good board and it handled 4 gpus without a sweat using settings like mentioned by nhando above. (im sure it could have taken more, but i only had 4 cards)

my only issue was that the drivers and bios were a bit tricky to sort out. i found adding cards sometimes fuddled with it, and i had to do a cmos reset and start from 1 gpu, adding 1 by 1 and confirming in the bios "board explorere" again to see a video output and try to correct the bios settings. once running right though, it was fine.

I was going to ask this same thing.  I'm currently using a motherboard that has difficulty running 3.

So far the only two MB's I use are the Asrock H81 Pro BTC and the Asrock Z97 Anniversary - and with both I have them working fine with 6 cards, but I've been eyeballing this MSI board because 7 boards would be pretty cool.

About the only anecdotal thing I can say is that guy who was selling that prebuilt FUEL160 system was using this this motherboard (I tracked down this board based on the pictures), and was running 8 cards (splitting on of the PCI-e slots into two)...
