that is dumb of me.

The reason that it shows a black screen is because you need to at least install one gpu or have one gpu connected while disabling 4g encoding to get into windows in order to install drivers.

4g encoding needs at least one gpu with the driver to work.

What I did was just booting windows with my 6700k, I thought my integrated graphics will work, but in fact I need at least one gpu with either amd or nvidia driver for windows to load.

After installing nvidia driver to one of my cards, they work fine now.

I'm sure Linux will boot fine on your motherboard, imagine running hiveOS off a usb stick you won't have to worry about all this cos Linux will just boot up fine, taking from experience though but since windows is your thing

Also is this happening without GPU in the motherboard too?

I think I got it.

Probably the bios is legacy+UEFI as default, therefore even though windows shows installed with UEFI, but it might be installed with mbr?

so what I am gonna try is to first disable 4g decoding and boot to windows.
Restart then change bios to UEFI mode only, thus only gpt partition will be used when installing windows.
Reinstall windows

Boot to windows, setup and everything

Go back to bios and enable 4g decoding

Edit:  shiet, just checked properties of my ssd and it shows GPT partition. This might be a no-go. Also there is no reason for it to not boot, I am running a 6700k with it.

Hi, my first rig was with msi z170a gaming m5.  I enabled 4g encoding and changed integrated graphics configuration from PEG to IGD with bios vers  1.D0 .
This allows me to run 8+ gpu no problem. I think it can get up as many as 9 with pcie splitter or nvme to pcie adapter.

I just got a msi z170a gaming m7 and I expect it to do the same thing.

I am running 1.L bios and I reset everything to defautl.
Then I did the same thing as my m5, changed PEG to IGD and also enable 4g encoding. After doing this, the system wont get me to the windows screen and if I reverse IGD back to PEG and only leave 4g encoding on, the system wont boot to windows either.
After resetting bios, I can boot into windows without any problem

I also tried 2 different bios. One is latest version and 1.H is the onther I tried.

I think the problem is with 4g decoding. Everytime I turn it on, I can't boot into windows. I did some research on this and find that many people with this issue which is after enabling 4g decoding, the system shows a balcklit screen and wont boot into windows. I can confirm this happens with 2 different bio versions.

my windows is installed on UEFI and I also tried enabling UEFI in bios and also tried UEFI + legacy in bios and the issue persists.

I can boot into windows just by disabling 4g decoding and I can boot with no problem whatsoever.

FYI my msi z170a gaming m5 is a plug and play.

All I did was flash bios to 1.D,  enabled 4g decoding and change PEG and IGD, and it works like a charm.  It can run up to 9gpus without any problem first try, I have no idea what is going on with m7

Boot into windows anyway possible (reset bios) and try upgrading your motherboard bios to the latest, just because your first motherboard works straight up doesn't mean other MOBO will work the same way, some will give few trouble
