United States recently passed a law through congress made to combat money laundering. It affected Mtgox aswell as places like paypal that is why you must verify with a picture, proof of location, and tax sheet for paypal.
Why does Mt. Gox require you to verify your account to be able to fund your account through a SEPA wire transfer? It's not a bank. I'm just buying BTCs like I would buy apples, right?
