Try searching on the forum for the three dozen other threads about exactly the same topic Wink

Basically you can't get fiat out of Gox. So people are forced to sell their fiat there instead of withdraw it. This artificially inflates the price of coins.

now they've got half the volume bitstamp has.

Bitcoinaverage.com shows ~30% USD volume for each. With btc-e at another ~30%.

MTGOX's price  is a result of the USD on their exchange being worth less than the USD on any other Bitcoin exchange.

Bitcoin's price is a measure (in USD) of the confidence people have in the USD portion of stored funds at any particular exchange.

Simply put:

MTGOX USD < ALL OTHER BTC EXCHANGES' USD

When in fact it should be 1 MTGOXUSD = 1 BITSTAMPUSD....etc etc etc

Why is there such a big difference between prices in these 2 exchanges

mtgox.com says 898$ and bitstamp.net says 799.3$

Is anyone exploiting this?

It's like 100$ profit per bitcoin Cheesy

Try to send usd from mtgox to bitstamp.

I'm not registered on either website that's why I'm asking for an elaboration Smiley

To the best of my knowledge, exchange prices are a result of how easy / hard it is to withdraw / deposit money in said exchange website, as well as how big the exchange volume is.
