As a Canadian, is there any way for me to prove my residence? I don't pay utilities, my cell phone is paid with the cable bill as it's cheaper bundled, and I obviously don't have private health insurance. They won't even take bank statements, which seems ridiculous to me.

You can make a fake one, cause they rarely bother with checking it out, just type your address and personal data correct. It's not like they are going to get in touch with a company that should send you those bills. I used my cable bill for my verification at Bitstamp. It was a pdf which i printed out to scan it again in a weird angle. That was enough for me.

But I would suggest against gox, they have high fees and waiting times. For me living in a EU Bitstamp is a no-brainer.

I give you a good advice. dont use Mt Gox.
Look here in the Forum, the hold the Money back. But even more worse they started also to delay Bitcoin withdraws !!!
I waited over 30h for a withdraw where the info never warned me about. says 1h max.)
Other people here wait since 3 days!! with amounts from 1k- up to 100000K....
(i had 2.5K)

This is a clear sign that this company has serious problems. Seems insolvent or fraudulent.

So if you dont have Money to burn just for fun. Choose another exchange, try to buy local, or try to find fund methods with built in conversation of cad to usd.

greetings
Not only did they delay them, they now require verification to withdraw coins?? WTF

bitstamp did that shit to me; basically extortion or outright stealing but with government's authority or under the guise of appeasing government regulations

long story short i paid someone to 'verify' my account so i could get most of my money back

Finally got a response from support, the told me to get a "Certificate of residency", which doesn't exist in my city. Maybe I'll check some other exchanges, but I don't know any that deal directly in $CDN.

Then as a Canadian don't you have tax records?   I'm sure that is proof of residence.   All of these other exchanges you have to verify with as well, so your not going to get around the fact that you need some kind of evidence.  Gox or not.

Never filed a tax return before, and won't be filing my first one until March. I get that they need proof, but how is a bank statement, a drivers licence, a health card and a passport not enough?

and bitstamp is much more safe. BTC-e is ok when it works, but the support is extreme sillent (1 sentence per day).

Why would anybody be on mtGox by their own will? :O :O :O

I'm not a US citizen (nor canadian), but would assume that both bitstamp or btc-e would be easier to buy and sell bitcoins..

yes, after 30h.
But they let me hang in the air. For that shit, i lost my trust for this "company".
I payed a lot of fees. This behavior was damn unrespectul.

Wait, were you getting cash or BTC? Cause I've heard cash wires take almost a month.

Now someome patiently wait their USD withdrawal from Mtgox since August.  Do you like to wait your money withdrawal with them?

Don't trade your bitcoin in Mtgox.

They're set up is fucking pathetic for such a big site. If you don't have a residential address, or even a residential address with someone else's name, I doubt your going to get your coins out of MtGox. They can't seem to wrap their heads around a few simple things and it just makes you want to jump through the computer and beat the shit out of them.

It's pretty awful, but I haven't found any other exchange that makes it easy to sell in CAD and wire money to a Canadian bank account. Luckily I don't have any coins in now, but I was hoping to sell a few of the ones I have for some living money with the price being so high right now. Wonder if they'll accept a combination of a passport, health card and bill with a family member's name on it. I also don't care for the idea of giving a company that much ID. Maybe I'll find someone on kijiji that wants to buy them in person.

What makes this extremely difficult for me is that I am going to school, living in a fucking 5-6 house appartment where the front door is locked to get into where the appartment doors are, and none of the bills I get are of physical address. I honestly don't know how the fuck they expect this (Maybe have an invisible mail man break down my Apt. Doors and provide me with a non-existtant service?), and when you try to explain to them, they don't comprehend. There's no UPS or FedEx where I live, all mail goes to the USPS.  They say "Go get a proof of residence from the City Hall", and I went and tried that and they have no clue what I'm talking about, it doesn't even exist.  Do not use MtGox, 0/10, 0/10,0/10, 0/10
