The money changers want their cut and don't want anything threatening their business model.  Wink

Or maybe there was too much fraud...

MtGox used a Barclays account in the UK to store a quantity of money.

By using a local money pot it got around exhange fees.

I think the banks got wise to this and closed them down. Also Barclays owns PingIt.

Does this mean that for a fee it's possible topen a mtgox account, transfer BTC then sell in GBP and use their japanese account to send back to the UK? Anyone know what the fee is, or is this just a standard wire-transfer?

OP - sorry don't mean to hijack your thread, but uk is so frustrating for this.

(edit - didn't see the responses - guess not doable then)

I would cancel the withdrawal, buy BTC, sell BTC to someone on here for a Faster Payments Transfer.

That's what I did in the end, thanks. @Projects was most helpful in that regard. Got the money in my account already. Smiley

I'm quite new to all this, but in searching this site and others I've yet to find a non p2p way of selling bitcoin into GBP and then to a uk GBP account. Maybe if you deposited before the change it's permitted, best just ask them.

Saw that announcement, but it's a bit confusing. It only says they can't accept deposits into their UK bank.

Have you had the BTC there for a while, as I didn't think you could deposit/withdraw GBP to uk from mtgox any more:
https://mtgox.com/press_release_20120925.html

I'm not sure what the reference to a japanese GBP account means (re. fees or getting them to the uk), but be interested to know how you get on as many of us have the same selling to GBP issue. Good luck

I sold some BTC on MtGox yesterday and received GBP for them. Now, I want to withdraw my GBP using a bank transfer. I've entered my IBAN to setup my withdrawal method, and MtGox seemed to correctly pick up the right bank.

Now though, when I choose Funding Options -> Withdraw Funds, the name of my bank in the drop down list of available withdraw methods is grayed out, and says "(validating)" next to it. It's been like that for about 36 hours. How long does it typically take for the bank transfer to be available to withdraw funds?
