MtGox don't want these kind of stories going around but there are often banks in the payment chain that block or quarantine BTC related transactions due to the old day tales of Silk Road - this will soon change as Hollywood and Wall Street make Bitcoin the new superhero of kool!

Well said! I hope the situation is getting better soon too Smiley

I've never tried to withdraw fiat from MtGox, but moving BTC in and out has been quick and pain free.

I've heard stories from people who witdrew fiat (USD) from MtGox 6 months ago and it never arrived and they keep getting a support ticket in reply to their angry queries. If you want fiat, probably best to move BTC out of MtGox to BTC-e or Coins-e or any other exchange and then convert.

In their defense: Of course, MtGox don't want these kind of stories going around but there are often banks in the payment chain that block or quarantine BTC related transactions due to the old day tales of Silk Road - this will soon change as Hollywood and Wall Street make Bitcoin the new superhero of kool!

I hope MtGox's partnership with MoneyPolo for non-US residents. However, US residents won't change anything  Embarrassed

Maybe you can use localbitcons? you can just offer to meet up in person and trade for straight fiat.

UPDATE:

(1) MtGox finally answered ALL of my open support requests - which is great.

(2) They tell me that the reason I was having trouble is that my bank in the USA (Citibank) is not accepting money wires from BTC exchanges. They tell me to try to use a different bank

(3) I actually have a bank account in Europe, but hey say I cant wire to that because I am not a European resident

Now I need to figure out how to get the money out.

I have heard that Coinbase, BTC-e and Bitstamp are options, but the issue is that when you convert the BTC to dollars there, you take about a 10% hit due to price difference between MtGox price since BTC is more expensive on MtGox.

I am also wondering, if I just wait a bit, maybe the situation will evolve/change, and there will be other methods available.

better off with BTC-e.com

bte-c have several withdraw options. What method do you recommend? Fee for wire transfer seems quite expensive unless big amount, doesn't it?

Looks like whatever country/currency they take time to validate bank account. I understand they have difficulty due to the restriction from their main bank for cash flow, validating should be different matter. I've been waiting for several weeks.

Not necessarily impossible because you are perfectly able to get fiat out of Mt-Gox .

hard to get fiat out of Gox or impossible?

If it just is a delay, do you think the delay is because they just have a lot of requests? or has US Govt/Banks refused to accept the incoming wires?

Also, MtGox does not answer any questions, so they are "unreachable", so I only have these forums to go to for help

Im happy to switch to another exchange, but meanwhile I have this large sum which I need to somehow recover

Is my only option just to wait? and keep asking MtGox in the hope they will reply at some point?

Gox let you withdraw crypto in and out without problems... but when you sell it into fiat, it's really hard to get it out of Gox... better off with BTC-e.com

At this point, is MGox able to wire USD withdrawals to a USD account in the USA? I have read that there are delays, but I have also read that they simply cant do it, especially if it is a large amount.

If they can do it but with delays, are we talking a month, 2 months, 6 months? a year?

My next question would be, if they cant do it, why do they even let you MAKE such a withdrawal. Because if so, the money leaves your Gox account, but just disappears, and is in some Limbo land forever???
