You cannot export from Breadwallet to Electrum directly. Basically you just send the coins in a normal transaction (use a BIG fee to avoid it getting stuck! Wink).

The way the wallet words are used is different between some wallets, so the same words in MultiBit HD and Breadwallet generate the same addresses... but in Electrum will generate different addresses.

That is indeed simple, great, I will try tonight.

Is it simple to transfer from Bread to Electrum?

No transfer... just the wallet words are required to restore to Breadwallet

Again, thank you so much for your reply. 2 final questions and I will try again tonight (starting to think the time spent on this is worth more than the value of the bitcoins!):

1. Will a future update to Multibit recover/resolve this issue (so maybe I just sit it out for the time being)?

2. The Multibit wallet files are on my PC. I can install Bread Wallet onto an iPhone. What files need to be transferred from the PC to the iPhone (presumably, via an email attachment), in order that Bread Wallet will recover the bitcoins?

Thanks

I am at a loss.

The lower case name did indeed allow me to unlock. When I went restore, I correctly inputted the 12 wallet words, and the wallet would tell me to wait while synchronization took place. Of course, nothing occurred and I still cannot access the wallet.

I have downloaded and installed Electrum.

I have tried your previous suggestion of decrypting the files, but despite spending 2-3 hours, I simply cannot achieve what the instructions state (or I don't understand them). So frustrating. Whenever I post the script I get 'bad syntax' or 'file not found'.

I mean ffs, this wallet worked for 3 weeks, now I am completely blocked from my own money, with no explanation. Will an update cure this?

Frankly, this is what gives BTC a bad name. The hassle factor in managing purchases and wallets is extraordinary, and I am technically proficient.

Importing your wallet words into bread wallet is the simplest solution. However, if you can't use that solution there are detailed instructions for using the offline webpage HCP mentioned in this post.

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.17773212

There are screenshots of the settings to use in that offline webpage at this link.

After you get your private keys you can install electrum and import them into it using the instructions here.

The words are definitely correct, with spacing and capitals where appropriate.
None of the wallet words should have Uppercase characters... they should all be lowercase.

Chances are tho, if you've been hit with the "Password did not unlock the wallet" issue, even if you restore from your wallet words, you'll get the same problem over and over... the issue is fairly well known around here... and the devs know about it: https://github.com/keepkey/multibit-hd/issues/982

If you can, I'd recommend switching to a new wallet... if you have an iOS or a relatively new (Marshmallow+) Android device, you can get access to your coins by restoring your wallet words using "Breadwallet" app... There is also "Simple Bitcoin Wallet" for older Androids (from version 4.0.3+).

And you can send your coins from there to a new wallet of your choosing... I wouldn't recommend staying with either Breadwallet or Simple Bitcoin Wallet as long term solutions.

If you don't have access to an iOS or Android device... there are other ways to get your coins out. I have some python scripts that can extract the private keys from the wallet that have your unspent coins and you can import them to another wallet...

or you can do it yourself by putting your wallet words into an offline copy of https://iancoleman.github.io/bip39/ then goto Derivation Path, select BIP32 and then set client to custom and the path to m/0'/0 and then look through all your addresses for coins (you may need to click "show more"), noting down the private keys for addresses with coins.

Then set the path to m/0'/1 and look through all your change addresses for coins, noting down the private keys for addresses with coins.

Then you can import the keys to another wallet.

Good luck.

Hi,

I have had Multibit running for 3-4 weeks on my Windows PC and can't get beyond the login screen now.

The password failed about 2 weeks ago for the original wallet, but Multibit proceeded to open a backup wallet.

Last night, the password failed (it is definitely correct), and no wallet could be opened. I tried both restore wallet and lost password, and entered the correct 12 wallet words but the "Next" button is grey i.e. I cannot press next. The words are definitely correct, with spacing and capitals where appropriate.

I have checked my windows folder and can locate some ".ase" backup wallets.

I have reinstalled Multibit. Nothing is working so far.

Any ideas, how can I retrieve my wallet  Huh Huh
