Yes... that's correct.

- Importing the private keys from your MultiBit Classic into Electrum will effectively "clone" your current wallet.
- Sweeping the private key(s) creates an on-chain transaction that will transfer the coins from your MultiBit Classic keys to whatever address you specify (in Electrum, usually preset to an address in your wallet)

Also, I believe you've made a good decision not to trust online wallets. Very wise.

I appreciate your reply, thanks. Upon further investigation, I'm reticent to trust my 'money' to CoinCorner or the other online alternatives. I've decided to use Electrum, and am in the process of learning how to import/sweep.
I already imported a key from a Multibit classic wallet into Electrum, to find the same amount in both programs (wouldn't it be luck to have doubled ones funds!), I'm learning the sweep function transfers funds fully from one software to the other.

Were you using MultiBit "Classic" or MultiBit HD?

If you were using Classic, and CoinCorner supports "importing" or "sweeping" Bitcoin Private Keys, then you should be able to that, as MultiBit Classic allows you to export private keys. However, with MultiBit HD, you will only have the "Seed Mnemonic" (aka wallet words)... so unless CoinCorner supports restoring from BIP39 compatible seed mnemonics, you won't be able to get your MultiBit funds directly into CoinCorner (You'd have to use something like Ian Coleman's Mnemonic Code Converter to convert the seed mnemonic to individual private keys then import/sweep those into CoinCorner)

The other alternative is to temporarily switch to Electrum (as per the videos from MultiBit devs for "Classic->Electrum" and "HD->Electrum", and then simply send your funds to your CoinCorner wallet (or whatever service/wallet you decide to use) from the Electrum wallet.

Personally, I'd recommend Electrum. Just make sure to get the official download from the official site: https://electrum.org/#download

I've been away for a while, and only just found out today that Multibit is no longer in development. I read I can use Electrum instead, which is what I'm looking at at the moment.

However I have a question. I recently signed to CoinCorner, is it possible to transfer my coins from Multibit (HD and classic) to my CoinCorner account? I'm also looking, but not registered with CoinBase and Blockchain.info as alternatives to CoinCorner.
